The family announces with heavy hearts the tragic passing of Alain (45) and Ryder (12) on Monday, July 31, 2023. They will be sadly missed by April Dion (nee Robson); cherished wife and mother. Kane and Atalia Dion; dear children, brother and sister. They are survived by: The Dion/Cormier family: Father/Pappy: Bruno Dion (Louise/Mammy) Mother/Grandmaman: Claire Cormier (late Gary Oja) Brothers and Sisters-in-law/Uncles and Aunts: Gino Dion (Stephanie), Dominique Dion (Elise), David Harvey (Gabrielle) Nieces, Nephews and Cousins: Kellyann, Milan, Sam, Gaby and Mia The Robson family: Mother-in-law/Granny: Hilda Robson (nee Shaganash) Father-in-law/Grampa: Late John Robson Brother-in-law/Uncle: Merle Robson Also left to mourn are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins from the Dion, Robson, Shaganash and Cormier families. Forever in the hearts of Alain and Ryder are their many friends, co-workers, teammates and classmates. Alain was an educator who worked throughout Northern Ontario. His last position was principal of the St-Gérard school in Timmins. He loved his job and would do anything for his students and staff. He also took care of the school in Gogama where he went above and beyond for the kids. He wanted to make a difference in their lives and give them equal opportunities like the rest of the schools had. Hopefully, his successor continues the hard work he put into his schools because those kids deserve that. Alain was a family guy; his family was his world. And not only his immediate family but his very large extended family. He had just recently came back from the North American Indigenous Games with Kane who played on the U-14 Ontario Basketball Team. He was proud when Kane came back with silver. He loved coaching his boys in hockey where he made many long lasting connections. His daughter Atalia had a special place in his heart as only little girls can. Like he said to Atalia everyday “Oublie pas ton Dad”. Alain loved the bush almost as much as he loved April, Kane, Ryder and Atalia. Fishing, hunting, four wheeling and snowmobiling in their little piece of paradise called Hillsport where he made a rink on the lake every year for the kids. Anyone who knows Alain, knows how much he loved Superman. He was kind of a real life Superman. Ryder loved spending time with his family and friends. Swimming, snowmobiling, four wheeling and fishing were just a few of the things he loved to do. Competitive but compassionate, he excelled at sports, especially hockey. He took very good care of his sister Atalia, always looking out for her. If there is anything people can take from this tragedy, is that, be careful on the roads while driving and make sure you tell your loved ones how much they mean to you, because you are never promised tomorrow….. In their memory, donations can be made to Porcupine Minor Hockey Association and the Timmins Minor Hockey Association. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 2:00pm from St-Joseph Church. Interment will be held at a later date at Manitouwadge Cemetery. Nous espérons que son successeur va poursuivre le travail acharné qu'il a mis dans ses écoles parce que les enfants le méritent. Alain était un homme de famille, sa famille était son monde. Non seulement sa famille immédiate, mais une très grande famille élargie. Alain venait tout juste de revenir des jeux autochtones de l'Amérique du Nord avec Kane qui a joué dans l'équipe de basketball U-14 de l'Ontario. Il était fier quand Kane est revenu avec la médaille l'argent. Il aimait entraîner ses garçons au hockey, ils ont établi de nombreuses relations durables. Sa fille Atalia avait une place spéciale dans son cœur comme seules les petites filles peuvent avoir. Comme il lui disait tous les jours « Oublie pas ton Dad ». Alain aimait le bois presque autant qu'il aimait April, Kane, Ryder et Atalia! Il aimait la pêche, la chasse, aller en quad et en motoneige dans leur petit coin de paradis appelé Hillsport où il faisait une patinoire sur le lac chaque année pour les enfants. Tous ceux qui le connaissaient savaient à quel point il aimait Superman. Il était comme un Superman dans la vraie vie. Ryder aimait passer son temps avec sa famille et ses amis. Il aimait faire de la natation, de la motoneige, être en quatre roues et faire de la pêche. Compétitif mais compatissant, il excellait dans les sports, en particulier le hockey. Il prenait toujours bien soin de sa sœur Atalia et veillait sur elle. S'il y a quelque chose que les gens peuvent retenir de cette tragédie, c'est d’être prudent sur les routes et en conduisant. Aussi, de toujours dire à vos proches que vous les aimez beaucoup parce que nous somme jamais promis demain. En leur mémoire, les dons peuvent être faits à l'Association de hockey mineur de Porcupine et à l'Association de hockey mineur de Timmins. La famille recevra parents et amis(es) le jeudi 10 août 2023 de 11h à 13h. Le service funèbre aura lieu à 14h, à l’église St-Joseph de Timmins, avec le Père Simon Drapeau comme célébrant. Une réception suivra au sous-bassement de l’Église. L'inhumation aura lieu à une date ultérieure au cimetière de Manitouwadge. Les arrangements funéraires sont aux soins du SALON FUNÉRAIRE MIRON-WILSON, CENTRE DE RÉCEPTION ET D’INCINÉRATION 150 sud, rue Balsam Timmins.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
