Hello McLaughlins Pat, Pam, John and families. Brother Doug saw the obituary of your mom and passed along to me and the rest of Watson clan. A sad time for the family I am sure but she had a long, healthy life. Many great memories. I know I, along with Bill, Maureen, Doug and mom and dad enjoyed our family visits with you guys growing up. Visits to the McLaughlin farm and Waterloo homestead are still etched in my mind. They were enjoyable times for me. Mom, Ruth, is doing well now. She spent last winter in respite at an independent senior's residence near her home. She went back to her house in June and is there now, probably, for the winter this year given the present circumstances. She turned 95 in October. Trusting all is well with you and your families. To View Livestream of Service click here August 22, 1922 to October 11, 2020 Peacefully and surrounded by family on Thanksgiving Day at age 98, in Chapman House Hospice, Owen Sound, following a short illness. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Cecil McLaughlin. They lived their lives in Waterloo. She was the eldest daughter of Eleanor Jessie McCarvell & James Ross Walker (of Guelph); predeceased by her siblings George, Eleanor (and Ed Krawchyk) & Evelyn Philp. Dorothy was a devoted mother loved deeply by her children Patricia of Belleville, Pamela (and Stephen Haigh) of Elora and John (and Lindsay Moeser) of Toronto. A proud grandmother cherished by Jessa McLaughlin Brown Samaras (Luca Chiarelli), Fraser and Graham (Robin Linton); an adoring great-grandmother to William & Katerina Samaras. Dorothy will be dearly missed by her sisters-in-law Jeanne Walker and Joyce McLaughlin and her many nieces & nephews with whom she had a great relationship. Dorothy was “ahead of her time”. Her calm, wise and witty ways put others first and were delivered with grace. Her hobbies were prolific, including baking (best butter tarts), knitting, quilting and needle point. She was an avid reader, bridge, and euchre player (who rarely lost!) as well as a crossword whisperer. She had a full career as an OR Nurse initially at Hamilton General Hospital and then at Grand River Hospital and continued to maintain close friendships with colleagues through reunions from 1944 to 2020. Dorothy also provided volunteer services to First United Church and Luther Village in Waterloo. She loved her travels to warm places with family (enjoying Mexico in February 2020), as well as her cottage life with family and neighbours on the shores of Lake Huron! Heartfelt thanks are offered to the many caring professionals who supported her over the past seven weeks at Chapman House Hospice, Grey-Bruce Health Services and the Kincardine Paramedics. Due to Covid-19, there will be a private celebration of life. Expressions of remembrance may be made at www.erbgood.com. My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
