JOHN ALEXANDER MCDONALD It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Major John Alexander McDonald at the Ritz Lutheran Villa on July 19th, 2022 in his 94th year. Devoted husband of Donna (Adams) of Mitchell and loving father to Dr Mary Ruth McDonald (Doug Schaefer), John “Ian” (Sandra Murphy), Heather (Blair Nonnecke) and Moraine (Tom Chessell -son in law). Proud grandfather to Glen McDonald, Kerry Leah Leutenegger (Roman), Dylan Chessell (Hillary Alyesworth), Dustin Chessell and Alexander Schaefer and Cameron Schaefer and his great grandson Denham Leutenegger. Loving brother of Joyce Murdock and Marie Jones (Vic). Born in Bandon Manitoba he is pre-deceased by his parents Daniel and Margaret (McIntyre) McDonald, his two sisters Shirley (Sulik) and Joan (Kerkowich) and his brother’s Raymond, Allen, Glen and Gilbert. John will be missed by his sister-in-law Ethel and brother-in-law’s Watson and Victor. John lived a full and abundant life that began in Brandon Manitoba, after his grade 11 education he taught in a rural one room school for 1 year before signing with the Canadian Army where he was an accomplished Canadian soldier who attained the rank of Major. He was a proud member of the Canadian Black Watch Regiment and served as a peacekeeper in Korea, Cyprus, in Syria and Israel including serving on the Golan Heights during the Yom Kippur War. He held posts in Aldershot Nova Scotia, Winnipeg Manitoba, Regina Saskatchewan, Oromocto and Moncton New Brunswick and retired his career at Base Borden Ontario in 1975 when he and Donna moved to the country at RR # 2 Mitchell. He entered a second career with St John Ambulance and was SouthWest Regional manager and a CPR and First Aid Instructor. He achieved his diploma in Horticulture from the University of Guelph and he and Donna joined the Canadian Universities Overseas (CUSO) where he taught young men in an agricultural college in Papua New Guinea for 2 years before finally retiring and settling with Donna at 151 James Street Mitchell, and the last 10 years at the Ritz Lutheren Manor apartments. John will be remembered for his love of family, his service to his country and his volunteer services to the United Church of Canada through Mitchell United Church and London conference. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 128 in Mitchell. John loved gardening, agriculture, woodworking, golfing and taking his daily walks, writing his memoirs, he loved to read and loved history. He loved the cottage he built for his family on Grand Lake in New Brunswick and later he and Donna enjoyed their cottage life at Sauble Beach. He had a passion for travel and experienced life in several different countries during his army career and in later life he and Donna travelled for pleasure to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, India, Thailand, Europe, Central America and the Caribbean. He loved to dance with Donna and they enjoyed many “Tuesday Tunes” in Seaforth. He was a proud and disciplined man and will be remembered for his distinguished stature, his grateful disposition, broad shoulders and his love of teaching. He was an officer and a gentleman and we will miss him dearly. The family wishes to thank his care providers Dr Lappano, Dr Lucier and the staff on the medical floor at the Stratford Hospital and at the Ritz Lutheran Villa. Friends will be received at the Lockhart Funeral Home, 109 Montreal St., Mitchell, on Friday, July 29th, 2022 at 10:00 a.m to 10:45 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. A scattering ceremony will follow at God’s Holy Acre, 41 Mornington Street Stratford, Ontario, N5A 5E7 at 2:30 p.m. Memorial donations to Main Street United Church or Nature Conservancy of Canada would be appreciated and may be made at LockhartFuneralHome.com.

An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.

Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
