Sofie Skakuj, 90 of Lockport entered into rest on July 12, 2022, and is now reunited in heaven with her love, Jozef Skakuj.
Born October 21, 1931, in Rossdorf, Germany she was the daughter of the late Franz and Magdelena Rausch.
She is also predeceased by her daughter Maria (Louis) Skakuj Bluestein and brothers Antone and Alfred Rausch.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph (Linda) and John (Elizabeth) Skakuj, daughter Anna (David) Nemi. Her grandchildren, Christy (Andrew) Sousa, Jillian (Nick) Enderton, Robert (Danielle) Nemi, Allison (Nathaniel) Bolt and Jack Skakuj. Step grandchildren, Amanda DePalma and Nicole Arquette. Great grandchildren, David and Daniel Nemi, Sophie Enderton, Brady, Dylan and Taylor Sousa, and Carmella Bolt. Step great grandchildren, Anthony and Lauren Smith. Sister-in-Law, Elisabeth Rausch and several nieces and nephews in her native Rossdorf.
Sofie met her husband Jozef during World War II. They married in Rossdorf on November 4th, 1952. They then immigrated to the United States, settling in Lower Town. After the birth of her children, Sofie helped her family achieve the American Dream, by cleaning homes in the Lockport area as well as St. Joseph’s church.
She enjoyed knitting or crocheting many Afghans for family and friends. In her prime, she enjoyed traveling with her children and grandchildren, cooking for her family and dancing at weddings to the Chicken Dance. She loved the many Shetland Sheepdogs she had over the years, most recently Joy, whom she would sneak endless table scraps.
Family and Friends may call at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home on Thursday, July 14th from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at All Saints Church Friday, July 15th at 10am.
