Kasha, Kenneth - Ken Kasha passed away on December 28, 2022 at the age of 89 from Covid. He was born in 1933 to J. Clarence and Mary Kasha and raised on their farm near Lacombe Alberta. He went to the University of Alberta for a Bachelor and Masters of Science in Agriculture and then to the University of Minesota for a PhD in plant genetics. Ken met his wife Marion at the University of Alberta. They married in August 1958 and remained married for 63 years. They had two children Lorelei and David and lived in St Paul, Minnesota, Ottawa and then Guelph when Ken became a Professor at the University there in the Crop Science/ Plant Agriculture Department and ultimately a University Professor Emeritus. Ken loved his work and had a strong work ethic. He developed an innovative method of crop production called haploidy that halved the breeding time required for new strains of barley and was a major contributor to the field of plant biotechnology. He received many awards for his research including an Officer of the Order of Canada, the Ernest C Manning Award, an honorary degree from the University of Calgary and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Ken was invited to speak about his work all around the world and lived in England and Australia while on sabbatical. He had many graduate students who were always invited into his home for meals. Ken was a Blues Jays fan and enjoyed watching and playing a variety of sports. He loved playing cards and played poker and bridge with friends. Ken and Marion enjoyed many activities together such as golf, curling, skiing, sailing, and square dancing. They bought a cottage in Meaford on Georgian Bay in the late 70s and the family shared many wonderful weekends there. They were also members of Trinity United Church. Ken suffered from Dementia the last few years of his life but he remained a kind man whose sense of humour never left him. Ken is predeceased by his wife Marion, his parents, his siblings Ron Kasha (Marian Kasha) and Nina Brown (Brian Brown), sister-in-law Grace Lenz and survived by his children Lorelei Jones (Ken Jones) and David Kasha (Susan Lapp), grandchildren Karina Hopkin (Jamie Hopkin), Wesley Jones and Greg Jones (Alessia Jones) and great granddaughter Alice Hopkin and his brothers-in-law Al Lenz and Gordon Lenz (Melody Lenz), as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. Arrangements entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St, Guelph. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 4th, 2023 from 7-9pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Trinity United Church, 400 Stevenson St N, Guelph, on Thursday, January 5th, 2023 at 1pm. Reception to follow service. Interment at a later date. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
