All 10 of his children surprised him in ways too many to mention, but as surprising as his children were to him, his grandchildren and great grandchildren surprised him even more. He saw in them himself: The scrawny 5’6 boy who set up a pole vault pit in his backyard, the kid who stole rides on passing street sleighs from Hawthorne to unknown “downstreet” locations; the boy, too, who danced for nickels at the corner of Main and Sydney streets. The sheer joy and delight in life of his grandchildren and great grandchildren became his again. Although he wanted us to mention that he once was the vice president of Antigonish Wholesalers Ltd., what we think is more remarkable is how well he adapted when it went under. He worked for his son-in-law, and at almost sixty was throwing bags of feed around that were close to his own weight. When that chapter ended, he worked at the Food Bank. He only hung up his work gloves in his mid-eighties. That resourcefulness is something he has bequeathed to all of us. He would be disappointed if we did not mention his athletic prowess. He was a fabulous tennis player, curler, a great golfer and badminton player (we can hear him saying. . . what about “ball’?). The only thing he liked better than playing sports was telling you about it afterwards. We may have yawned our way thru it then; but we would do anything to hear it just one more time. Jack always had to have one for you. And by that we mean he always had to have a new joke — the spicier the better of course. (And he expected you to have one for him, too.) His repertoire was substantial. One of Jack’s other great achievements was that despite living on his own for almost 35 years, he avoided putting together anything that could be fairly called a meal. Tim Horton’s and Swanson’s will miss his patronage. We already miss you Dad, but we will carry you around with us; and our children and our children’s children will carry you with them, too. You are part of them as much as they are part of you. You did all you could for all of us. And not just for us, but for friends and acquaintances and people unknown to us. We are very proud of you Dad, and though our hearts are heavy at this moment, they are immeasurably larger and fuller because of you being in it. Jack married Lynn Waters and together they raised 10 kids. Although they went their separate ways, they remained close friends and companions till the end. Children from oldest to youngest: John, Lorne, Jan (Vangestel), Diane, Jim, Andrea (Thomson), Keith, Pat, Jean (Deschamps), and Lisa (MacGillivray). Grandchildren: Jenna, Holly, Dayna, Pat, Emma, Kelly, McKenzie, Cameron, Jeddiah, Makeala, Jack, Audrey, Aiden, Jimmy, Sadie, Sonya and Eva. Great grandchildren: Burke, Ellis, Freya, and Hazel. Visitation, with social distancing measures in place, will be held on Monday June 22 from 4:00-6:00 pm in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St. A private family Funeral will be held in St. Ninian Place, Rev. Donald MacGillivray presiding. A video link of funeral mass will be available here on Tuesday. Donations may be made to the Antigonish Community Food Bank. Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
