Jay Coy Jr.

Jay Rodney Coy Jr. of Susquehanna Township, Harrisburg, began his new life with the Heavenly Father on Friday, November 13, 2020 at his home in the presence of his family. Jay was born June 15, 1948 in Harrisburg, PA. He graduated from Middletown Area High School, Class of 1967. Jay is survived by his wife of 47 years, Virginia (“Ginny”) Harlan Coy; his son Scott Coy of Camp Hill, 2 granddaughters and a great grandson; his sister Debra Coy Sipe (Terry) and Ronette Snyder (James) of Seattle, WA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Jay R. Coy, Sr., and his mother Florence Nicholson Brounty, and his brother Ray A. Coy. Jay retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania State Police, as a Custodial Services Manager. He was a member of Brookfield Bible Church, Harrisburg. He was also a member of the Gideons International, distributing God’s word to hotels, motels and prison facilities. Jay’s biggest passion was reaching lost souls for Jesus through prison ministry at Dauphin County Prison as a spiritual advisor and more recently as chaplain at the County Work Release Center. There he lead Bible studies, distributed Bibles and Christian books and operated a food pantry and a clothing bank. Jay enjoyed “adventures in dining”, bird watching and feeding the beautiful songbirds that came to visit every day. Jay’s family will be forever grateful for the compassionate caregivers from Homeland At Home Hospice. Due to COVID-19 restrictions funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Oberlin are handling arrangements.
