Joseph Cecil ‘Joe’ Weiler, 92, of Waterloo, Ontario, passed away on January 22, 2021. A funeral mass will be celebrated at a future date at Immaculate Conception Church in Joe’s hometown of Formosa, Ontario. Joe was born in Carrick Township to Rose & Ed Weiler on July 18, 1928. Joe grew up in the village of Formosa, and although he re-located for work in the mid-1970s, his heart never really left there. Sport was his main passion, baseball, and hockey in particular. He captained many teams that travelled widely to play the sports circuit in South-Western Ontario. Teams like the Milday Monarchs in hockey. In baseball Joe either pitched or played 3rd base, and he continued to play ball well into his adult life. Joe also loved to dance, and was very involved in all of the social activities in the area. Everyone in Formosa knew Joe. His first work experience was at his father Ed’s general store in Formosa. Even after leaving the village, Joe returned to work alongside his father in the store on weekends. He loved his parents dearly, and did whatever he could to help them. Joe was very proud to work for the Formosa Spring Brewery, which was a real pillar of the Formosa community. He greatly respected the Heisz brothers who managed the brewery, and particularly looked up to Walter, who took Joe under his wing. Through various ownership changes Joe found himself working in Barrie, Ontario for Molson Breweries. Many of his best friends like Beamer Borho and Don Rettinger also relocated to Barrie. These were very important connections for Joe and they remained his closest life-long friends. Joe managed the Molson retail outlet in Barrie for many years. He was treated well, and was always proud to say that he worked for Molson. Joe retired from Molson in the early 1990s. While in Barrie Joe met the person that was to become the love of his life, Pat Hennessey. Joe and Pat were married in 1989. They both loved to travel and took wonderful trips to Europe, Great Britain, Hawaii, and many other places in Canada and the U.S. They also enjoyed much time spent with Pat’s daughters Kate and Michelle and their families. Golf became a passion for Joe as well, and he cherished the time with his golf buddies. Joe & Pat moved to Roberta Place Retirement Residence in 2013 where they enjoyed many happy years. Joe loved to go on walks and could often be found ambling around Barrie. Joe & Pat’s dear friends Margot and Brenda were wonderful support for them during their days in Barrie. Joe remained living in Barrie after Pat’s passing, but health problems necessitated a move to Columbia Forest Long Term Care in Waterloo, where he was a resident of Dickson House. Despite the health challenges that Joe faced, his kind and gentle nature and his ever-present smile made him very popular with the staff at Columbia Forest. Always a real gentleman. And living in Waterloo brought him closer to his dear brother Art, making more frequent visits possible. Joe is survived by his sister Lorraine Voisin of Wingham, his brother Art Weiler and sister-in-law Barbara (Canning) Weiler of Waterloo, and his nieces and nephews: Connie (Litt) Thring (Bev), Todd Weiler (Justine), Rich Weiler (Janice), and Kelly Weiler-Armstrong (John). He is predeceased by his wife Patricia Weiler, his parents Rose & Ed Weiler, his siblings Helene Weiler, Lloyd Weiler, Blanche Weiss, his brothers-in-law Harald Litt, Nick Voisin, and Wilfred ‘Toots’ Weiss, and his nephew Ken Litt. Special thanks to Joe's nephews for all their work and care, Todd Weiler while Joe was in Barrie, and Rich Weiler while he was in Waterloo. Donations in memory of Joe may be made to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie, or St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener and can be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445. My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
