Della Powell Lewis was born on October 1, 1934 in Aracoma, West Virginia. She met the love of her life Willie James, whom she lovingly called "Coney", on December 26, 1951. They were married on January 30, 1954 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. God blessed them with three sons, Gregory Dean, Steven Powell and Philip James.
Della and her husband Coney, a career US Army Veteran for over 20 years, raised their "Military Family" in various parts of the world. Della managed the family alone in the early 70's while Coney was deployed in Vietnam. She was the exemplary Virtuous Woman depicted in Proverbs 31.
Della had many vocations and avocations over the course of her life. She first worked at a lamp shade factory in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and later held several federal positions at Fort Dix, McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey and Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii.
Della's love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was the priority of her lifetime. She and Coney participated in many church ministries. Coney was later ordained as a pastor and together they started two churches; Maranatha Bible Missionary Church in Madison, West Virginia and Maranatha Bible Church in Wrightstown, New Jersey.
Della’s hobbies included crocheting and taking care of her immediate and extended family. She was the epitome of love, kindness and generosity. Della was known as a person who wanted people to be treated equally and fairly; everyone was welcome in her home!
Della is predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Cepha Powell, her brother Arthur Powell, and her sister Anna Walker. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years Coney, 3 sons Gregory (Janice), Steven (Terre) and Philip (Fraida) and grandchildren Megan (Jason) Mueller, Todd Jasinski, Robbie Jones, Sedale Jones, great grandchildren Alexis and Addison Mueller, great-great grandchild Carmella Beecher, sister Dolores (Paul) Lubben, brother Kenneth (Beatrice) Powell and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
