And so, in the end, Al’s big generous heart could sustain him no longer. He passed on from this life at Riverview Health Center on November 8, 2021. He will be greatly missed by Pat, his wife of 49 years, son Nathan (Carla), son David (Amber), and his six granddaughters, Taryn, Rayne, Laryn, Calla, Cassia, and Abrielle. Also by his numerous in-laws, nephews, and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Ann Bryski, brother Ray (Angela), brother Alvin (Michele), and sister Genevieve (Ken). Margaret Oliver, an American poet, wrote: When it’s over, I don’t want to wonder If I have made of my life something particular, and real. I don’t want to find myself sighing and frightened, Or full of argument. I don’t want to end up simply having visited this world. It can be said of Al that he was a full partaker of this life and not a mere visitor. From his humble beginnings near Wroxton, Saskatchewan on November 21, 1942, to his final passing, Al’s life was anything but dull. His early life in rural Saskatchewan included many experiences, challenges, and adventures which in hindsight makes one wonder how he even survived them. At age 3 he was kicked in the stomach/chest area by a giant Clydesdale and propelled across the stable to the opposite barn wall. He worked in the fields with their John Deere tractor at age 8 and learned to drive the family car at age 10 when his foot could reach the pedals. He started delivering grain with their half ton truck to Wroxton on back roads to avoid the RCMP at age 12. Testing fate all the time. Al moved to Winnipeg in 1960 where he worked for the CNR from 1960-63. He moved on to his chosen profession of Education which saw him in many roles, including classroom teacher of all subjects, administrator of Emerson Elementary School, coach, patrol and bus supervisor, mentor, and tutor. Al and Pat met while teaching at Springfield Heights School. Their teaching careers took them to Mexico for a year where they taught at the American School Foundation of Guadalajara while their sons attended grades 5 and 6 in the same school. His career ended with him working in the International Student Program at Kildonan East Collegiate, a job which he loved and had a hard time retiring from. The connections made during that time expanded Al and Pat’s family to include “sons and daughters” from many places in the world and whose friendships continue to this day. Al held many sports related positions, too numerous to mention. From softball, fastball, and hockey, to one of his favorites, being the security head for the women’s beach volleyball at the 1999 Pan Am games in Winnipeg. He was the assistant penalty timekeeper and scorer at ice level for the Winnipeg Junior Jets. He also worked the Canada-Russia Hockey Summit Series Game 3 in 1972 at which he was verbally insulted by a furious Peter Mahovlich over a disallowed goal. He received an apology from Captain Phil Esposito before the start of the second period. He also remembered meeting Rocket Richard, Jean Beliveau and Red Storey during his time as timekeeper. Travel was a big part of Al’s life. He and his family were blessed to create many beautiful and lasting memories all over North America and Mexico. One of Al’s favorite earlier travel memories was when Patti Page (the Singing Rage) serenaded him in Las Vegas at a show at the Desert Inn while sitting on his lap, caressing his hair, and singing “Let me go, lover”. Al had a strong sense of civic duty and held many civic positions. One he was most proud of was the Clean and Green Team he ran for Councillor Mark Lubosch (a former student) from 2000 to 2007 in Bunn’s Creek Centennial Park. Another one of Winnipeg’s gems which is near his home. Al’s great wit and sense of humour often kept those around him guessing. He loved his grandchildren fiercely and would spoil them at every opportunity with treats and money. He was the most generous tooth fairy! Al’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care Program as well as to the nurses and doctors at Riverview Health Center who provided such tender compassionate care to Al and his family. A special thanks to Tim Hiebert and Carey Isaac, Al’s doctors. A memorial service will be held at River East Church, 755 McLeod Ave. on Sunday November 14, 2021, at 2 p.m. Proof of double vaccination is required. Donations in Al’s memory can be made to Siloam Mission. “Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones; And when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
