Dear Pam, I was shocked and saddened to learn of Ian's death. I never heard if he continued academic work. I did not see him at events or online after our last meeting at the Star Diner in August 2015. I would like to think that there was a time when our institutions were better at looking after people, but perhaps it was never so. He was a good man. He contributed a lot under other circumstances might have continued to do so for many years. If I can help, please phone me. I don't have a lot to offer, but like Ian I have some experience with students, and if either Gail or Kevin are looking for academic advice, I might be able to help them - they may already be past that stage. My thoughts and prayers are with you. David (613 532 3002)

We have been so shocked and saddened with this news. It is far too early to lose your beloved husband, father, family member and friend. We haven’t seen Ian in many years, but we do remember how bright he was and how he was so passionate about the military at such a young age. He knew what he wanted and stayed focused on his dreams. He accomplished so much. I hope some day the wonderful memories of his strong character and a life full of family and career accomplishments will lessen your pain. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this deeply sad time.
