Harald C. Rosengren of Newport, RI died peacefully February 22, 2021 at the Village House Nursing Home in Newport. A loving father and dedicated sailor, Harald was born in Gävle, Sweden to Alfhild Pettersson and Per Strand. Harald leaves behind his wife, two sons, seven grandchildren and two brothers and sister.
After graduating from his military service as a Mountain Ranger at the Royal Swedish Army Rangers Special Forces in Kiruna at the very north of Sweden he joined the prestigious Royal First Life Guard of the Royal Swedish Armed Forces. After leaving the Royal First Life Guard, Harald joined Hässle, Pfizer and then Astra Pharmaceuticals. Harald then worked for Sandoz Pharmaceuticals in Sweden, as well as in London, United Kingdom and subsequently in Basel, Switzerland. He eventually accepted a rotation in the US.
Harald then decided to pursue his love of sailing and craftsmanship, initiated in his youth as a sea scout/cadet, by enrolling at the International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS) at Newport, RI. He also was active in managing the youth sailing program at the North Atlantic Station (NAS), and was a member of the New York Yacht Club Race Committee. Harald was a lifetime member of the Royal Swedish Yacht Club and was a member of the Swedish Cruising Club.
Beside his interest in sailing and skiing he was a great chef with a passion for food and cooking. In general, all types of food but French in particular. He was a member of The Gastronomic Society Marmiterna in Helsingborg as well as in Stockholm, Sweden. Reading was a joy that kept him extraordinarily well-informed, and well educated.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Youth Committee of the North American Station of the Royal Scandinavian Yacht Club, by emailing email@example.com.
A private family service will be held, and as we are able to gather safely, a “Celebration of Life” will likely be held.
In loving memory…
