Rosetta Rhynes

While at her residence on Sunday, July 26, 2020, The Lord called Rosetta to her heavenly home; well done thou good and faithful servant. Rosetta Elder Rhynes was born on August 17, 1928, in Marianna, Florida, to the late Willie Elder, Sr., and Plassie Dina Elder. At an early age, Rosetta professed Christ as her personal Savior and joined Union Hill Baptist Church in Marianna, Florida. She later joined Bethel Star Missionary Baptist Church in Marianna, Florida. She was very active in the church, namely Pastor’s Aide Ministry, Senior Choir, and the Building Committee for a new sanctuary at Bethel Star Missionary Baptist Church. Rosetta had a passion for singing in the Senior Choir and doing whatever she could to help her church. Rosetta was united in holy matrimony to J.C. Rhynes, Sr., on July 15, 1944. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage. To this union, eight children were born. Rosetta truly loved her family, she took great pride in baking each one of her children their favorite cake for Christmas. She was often requested by others to make a coconut cake or a sweet potato pie, just to name a few dishes. Nothing compared to her chicken and rice, beef stew, and a pot of peas with okra. Rosetta was employed at Chipola Junior College for 25 plus years as a dorm mother. She enjoyed her work and being the “Other Mother” to the girls at the college. On any given Sunday, the girls would join the family for Sunday dinner. Rosetta was preceded in death by her loving husband, J.C. Rhynes, Sr.; one sister, Maggie “Sister” Russ; two brothers, Albert Elder and Willie “C-Boy” Elder; one sister-in-law, Fannie Elder; two brothers-in-law, Hogan Peterson and Henry Russ; two daughters, Jennie R. Harold and Bobbie Jean Sims; and one son, J.C. “Preacher” Rhynes, Jr. She leaves to cherish a lifetime of love and fond memories: children, Earnest (Martina), Eddie (Denease), Muriel (Robert), Nena, and Clarence; one sister, Emma Peterson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Martha Elder, Eva Pearl Brown (Robert), Clydia M. Howard, Sylvester Rhynes, Ida McLemore (Macon), and Carrie Rhynes; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many dear friends. Graveside services will be 10AM, Saturday, August 1, 2020, Orange Hill Cemetery, Marianna, Florida.
