GRUSYS, Irene Dawn - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Irene Grusys (nee Thomas) announce her passing on Wednesday May 5, 2021 at the Lady Dunn Health Centre, Wawa, Ontario. She leaves behind her husband, Felix, of more than 42 years of marriage along with her sons, Derek (Masae) and Darren. Proud grandmother of her beautiful grandson, Winston, and her special granddaughter, Elise. She was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, on March 24, 1945, to the late Joseph and Mildred (nee Snyder) Thomas, pioneering residents of Wawa. She is survived by her older brother, Joseph Mark Thomas of California and predeceased by her sister, Bertha “Bertie” Markovich (late Robert). Dear sister-in-law of the late Victor (Joanne Fay, late Jill), Mary Cropper (Simon) and John (Christine) and loving aunt of Steven, Michael, Jennifer Woods, Megan Walker, Eric, Peter, Kathryn Fay and Danielle Fay. She leaves behind many great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as, countless long-time friends and their families. Irene spent time in the Bahamas as a young adult and loved every minute of it. She worked in Toronto as an executive secretary to John Eaton, President of Eaton’s, after returning to Canada. Afterwards she moved to Wawa to help her aging parents and found work at Algoma Ore Division in the mine office. Felix and Irene met, married and welcomed their two sons. When the boys were in their teens Irene went back to work at the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) as the secretary to the District Manager until her retirement. Irene enjoyed life to the fullest. She was involved in curling for many years and thoroughly loved judging the infamous Ladies Curling Bonspeil’s costume parade. Once the snow was gone, she was an eager golfer at Ladies Night at the Michipicoten Golf Club. Her year-round interest in sewing was one of her greatest loves. She met up with her sewing gals and stitched away for entire weekends. Over the years she made many gifts that her friends and their children will cherish forever. She was always pleased to sit down with a good book. Irene would get together with her fun-loving group of Red Hatters on many occasions, would enjoy weekly lunches with the Saturday Lunch Bunch and would attend the yearly Christmas luncheon with the MNR ladies that culminated in making a special Christmas craft. Irene never turned down an opportunity to go “gallivanting”. Throughout her life she travelled to various curling events, rode the VIA Rail train with her brother, experienced a cross-Canada car trip with her sons when they were young, flew to Japan to visit Derek when he lived there, enjoyed trips to the USA and Mexico, drove from the Maritimes, went south for concerts and plays, attended family weddings near and far, cruised the seas with friends, camped on the shores of Northern Ontario’s lakes and her two most recent adventures to Grande Prairie, Alberta, where she enjoyed her “damn cute” grandson, Winston. She has earned her wings and can travel anywhere now. Irene was an avid volunteer holding positions on the Lady Dunn Foundation Committee, Wawa Area Victim Services, the Michipicoten High School (MHS) Bursary Committee, the Literacy Coalition and the organizing committees of the many MHS Reunions. She was an exceptional hostess who held fabulous get-togethers at home and at camp. She made her famous lasagna and blueberry pies that pleased many palates. Everyone always felt welcome. A heartfelt thank you to the caring staff at the Lady Dunn Health Centre, Dr. Dannica Switzer and Irene’s home care staff. There will be no funeral as per Irene’s wishes. In her honour donations can be made to the Lady Dunn Health Centre. (Arrangements entrusted to the Kerry Funeral Home, Wawa, 1-800-439-4937). www.kerryfuneralhome.ca Despite her failing health Irene maintained a brave face to the end. She touched a lot of people in many ways and will be fondly remembered. Rest in Peace my dear until we meet again.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
