Mr. Herbert Leroy Fisher "Herb" was born April 28, 1943, in Atlantic City, NJ. He is the son of the late Leroy and the late Eunice Grace (Bailey) Fisher.
He born and raised in Atlantic City, NJ. He graduated from Atlantic City High School and continued his education at Atlantic Cape Community College and graduated from Stockton State College with a B.A. degree in Criminal Justice.
He came from a single parent home and is the oldest of eight children. Early in life Herb's vision was to one day be able to assist those less fortunate than himself. This vision became a reality after he returned from serving in the Vietnam War in which he received a Purple Heart and an honorable discharge. His first opportunity came as a Youth Counselor and Job Developer for Atlantic Human Resources, Inc. and later he was asked by John Brooks to develop jobs for the clients at NARCO Drug Program.
From this he continued to work in the Social Service Field working for the Recreation Department for the City of Atlantic City and as a substitute teacher for the Board of Education. Having been one of the original organizers of the Greater Atlantic City Youth Association/Dolphins Football-he was inspired to continue to reach out and mentor youth along with counseling young adults and being a caregiver when the opportunity arises.
Herb started in the casino industry as one of the first African American Senior Inspectors with the N.J. State Casino Control Commission. He was the winner of the 2007 Atlantic City Host Award sponsored by the Atlantic County Freeholder and Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce. He was also influential in establishing local ministries. He was the administrator of Friendship Outreach Ministries; a board member and treasurer of the Neighborhood Life Center subsidiary of CWCW Ministries; and facilitated bi-weekly bible study.
Herb was very active on his job at the Borgata Casino Hotel in volunteer work, participating in efforts to raise funds for the Red Cross and Heart Association drives. Working through the Neighborhood Life Center, Herb has been able to get commitments to donate to Sister Jean's Kitchen, Stanley Holmes Village Work Team, Greater Atlantic City Youth Association and the Buzby Village Tenant Association.
