Geoffrey Albert Scarth, met his ‘earthly expiration date’ suddenly, unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep at his home in Blue Ridge, Georgia. Geoff dearly loved his experiences with family, friends, animals and strangers through the humor and stories that connected them all. He was an incredibly talented designer, builder, visionary and teacher who lived life with a passion each day. Geoff thrived using his brilliant mind (thoughts, dreams and relationship) to extend concepts in building, repairing, salvaging and creating memorable gifts, environments and experiences for himself and those he loved. He made the most of his God given intelligence, wit and caring humor to build relationships with everyone he met.
Geoff grew up with his family in Goshen,NY where he graduated from Goshen High School in 1967. He loved his small town life in Goshen where his family was core, school friends became his lifelong friends and boundaries were always pushed. He excelled in sports, tomfoolery and work ethic (which kept him out of some trouble) He graduated from Cortland SUNY in ’70 with a BS in chemistry and physics.
His students and peers in Goshen, N.Y., Tallahassee, FL and St. Mary’s International School in Tokyo, Japan and Blue Ridge, GA carry lasting memories of his outlandish experiments in physics and chemistry and his love of life. Music of the 60’s, favorite sit-coms (Friends, Seinfeld, The Big Lebowski), experiencing being a pilot, riding his bike, cooking/creating, wrestling, golf, sailing/ diving/ surfing and reading all brought him joy and the time to think of what he ‘would do next.’ He ‘built’ love and laughter into all that he experienced. He left this world a better place by leaving a trail of quality furniture, projects of very diverse materials (wood, metal and stone were his favorites), as well as houses that he build with love in the San Diego, CA area, Martha’s Vineyard, MA., Shell Point Beach, and Tallahassee, FL. as well as the Blue Ridge, GA area.
In addition to his charismatic, humorous nature Geoff was a quiet, introspective, caring man.
He sought justice, and shared his generosity with those in need. Geoff was a big contributor to the workings of his Willard Mountain community. He had no desire for a formal service but preferred that those who love him share a celebration of life at a future date.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Gwen, his beautiful daughters Karen Ramirez of Tappan, NY (daughter, Lucy) and Katie Hohman of Orlando (husband Jeff and sons Taylor and Brandon), his brothers Al (wife Susan) and Jon (wife Cindy) all of Coeur d”Alene, ID and loving maternal aunts and cousins living in the Northeastern, USA. He was predeceased by his parents: Father: James Albert Scarth and Mother: Frances Mamaty Scarth.
