Pinton, Dr. Giorgio Alberto April 04, 1930 - February 16, 2021 Giorgio A. Pinton, 91, of Canton, husband of Margaret Diehl Pinton, passed away and transcended in peace on February 16, 2021. Giorgio lived a full blessed life as a father, husband, philosopher, author, translator, professor, preacher, counsel, and friend, but not necessarily in that order. Born in Vicenza, Italy, in 1930 to Irma Giacometti and Mario Pinton, Giorgio enjoyed his childhood among his many Venetian relatives. He enjoyed the games and simple “minestra”, or soups of pasta, garlic, broth, onion and potato, coining him the nick-name “patata”. During the late 1930’s, a young Giorgio, with his brother Claudio, sister Chiara and parents moved to Milano, Italy. Giorgio entered the Jesuit Seminarietto in Milano, near Il Duomo, at age 10 and quickly rose to assistant to the Bishop. When he graduated the Seminary, the young Jesuit taught Christian doctrine and helped the war-time needy across northern Italy, including regions of Veneto, his family’s homeland. There in the barracks, classrooms and kitchens, Giorgio learned to create and serve magical tasty soups from the simplest (ie left-over) ingredients. In the early 1950’s, Giorgio returned to Milano for a B.A. in philosophy at the Jesuit’s Institute of Philosophy at Gallarate. In ponderance of his faith, Giorgio left the Jesuits for Lyon, France in 1958, under counsel from the local head of World Council of Churches (WCC). They found Giorgio a job as cook and handy-man at an international secondary school at Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, France. There he met a young and beautiful New England teacher, Margaret, who was not initially attracted to Giorgio, but, well, he grows on you. Margaret and Giorgio, then speaking only French, connected from different origins but a common passion, to teach. They married in 1960 in Le Chambon. Through the World Council of Churches, Giorgio and Margaret set up a care facility in Falerna in 1960, in a poor but proud southern Italy region, to help young teenagers get training in civics, ethics, and basic skills like digging wells and establishing livestock care. During their five year tenure in Calabria and during visits to the U.S., they were blessed with two sons, Michel Mario and Filippo Giorgio, a daughter Sara Madelena, and an adopted son, Giuseppe. In 1965 at the end of their assignment with WCC, Giorgio’s large family moved to New Hampshire, USA. Giorgio again began teaching at Laconia State, NH. Giorgio was accepted into the Hartford Seminary, CT, where he graduated with a Ph.D. in Renaissance and Reformation Studies in 1972. During that time, Giorgio and Margaret co-directed a state sponsored group home for troubled teenagers. They were blessed with a son, John Daniel, during that time. Giorgio continued to teach through the 1970’s and 1980’s: Italian Language at the University of Connecticut, then Philosophy at the University of Hartford, with lectures at Trinity College and other colleges. Giorgio continued to learn: another Bachelors in Divinity, Masters in Education, and CT state certifications in multiple skills (Latin, Italian, Spanish, French, Mathematics). He held the position of Counselor for Religion and Philosophy at the Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, CT. In 1976, Giorgio and Margaret were blessed with a daughter, Cristina Costantina. For almost 20 years, Giorgio taught at the Correctional School District #1 in New Haven, CT. His inspiration included publications of incarcerated poetry and short stories. Giorgio and Margaret committed decades to teaching language, art, honor, ethics, and skills to the incarcerated. In 1990, toward the end of his teaching career, Giorgio began to write and precisely translate from Latin and Italian, from his family home in Canton, CT. While he continued to interact with high school students as “the library professor” and as a member of the Town Board of Education, he found his most rewarding work in research. The art of translation became his profession. Giorgio focused almost another 20 years in translation, interpretation and publication of Renaissance Philosophy, including publishing over 30 books, many of them with his intellectual peers reflecting the interpretations of Giambattista Vico. Margaret, his ultimate intellectual and spiritual peer, also co-translated several Vico works. Giorgio was pondering half a dozen new translations and interpretations from Latin and Italian during his final days with family. Amazing how far a good bowl of soup can take you. Giorgio is survived by his wife, Margaret Diehl Pinton, his sons G. Peppe, Filippo, J. Daniel, and his daughter Cristina, his sister Chiara (of Rome, Italy), seven grand-sons, a grand-daughter and three great grand-daughters. Funeral services for Giorgio will be private at the convenience of family. A celebration of Giorgio’s life will take place in the spring. Donations in Giorgio’s memory may be made to The Canton Food Bank at Trinity Episcopal Church, PO Box 374, Collinsville, CT 06022.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
