GRATIA JEAN ALTON October 26, 1928 – June 12, 2021 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Gratia Jean Alton, age 92 years, peacefully in Pioneer Ridge on Saturday, June 12, 2021. Jean was born in Fort Frances on October 26, 1928, one of seven children born to Warren and Gratia McMillen. She worked a few different jobs including White's Drug Store, the B & B Store and the Red Rickshaw, but really dedicated her life to taking care of her family. Jean met Tauno (Don) Alton and they were married on December 10, 1949, before having their two daughters, Charlene and Diana. Jean was talented and creative, sewing wedding gowns and dresses, knitting sweaters, crocheting afgans and slippers for all of her family. She was a consummate cook, delectable baker and was great at canning, pickling and creating jams and jellies from hand-picked berries. She also enjoyed writing stories and poems, entertaining her young siblings and later her daughters and extended family. Jean loved nature and was an animal lover, feeding the birds and local cats as she was able. She had many memories of all the wonderful cat furbabies and granddogs over the years. Jean was a woman of deep faith. She was trained in Child Evangelism and taught local children weekly in her home. She was also very active in the Lutheran Church, as a Sunday School Teacher, Ladies Aid, Treasurer of Mission to Lepers and singing in the Church Choir. Jean truly lived in a state of perpetual worship and thankfulness to her Heavenly Father. She was a witness for Jesus and was never shy to speak of her faith. Knowing Jean, was to love her. She was a kind and loving soul, whose gentle spirit and cheerful, gracious nature touched everyone she met. Jean was keen to keep in touch with close childhood friends and maintain strong relationships. She took an interest in the lives of her caregivers at Pioneer Ridge, whom she was so grateful for, often writing out thank you cards and giving gifts. Jean will be forever loved and missed by her daughter Charlene Syrduk and son-in-law Paul Syrduk; siblings Eva Stark of California, Janet Steinhoff, Stanley (Marilyn) McMillen, Myrtle McMillen (Mike) of Winnipeg, Lorne (Janet) McMillen and brother-in-law Ed Delwo of British Columbia, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Tauno (Don) Alton in August 1989; daughter Diana in July 2008; her parents Warren and Gratia McMillen; sister Gail Delwo; brothers-in-law Elmer Stark, Eric Steinhoff and Bill O'Connell; nephew Max McMillen and special grandnephew Caiden Steinhoff. A private family graveside service will take place in Lappe Cemetery. A Celebration of Jean's life will be held at a later date. Should friends so desire memorial donations made in memory of Jean to Diabetes Canada or SicKids would be greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James. Memories I'll hold your memories sacred, Mother Dear, They will always be protected, Never fear... I will keep them in a very treasured space, And we will take them out, together, Gently, face to face... So if a time or two, you may forget They will live inside my heart...forever set... My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.
If in any part of these Terms of Use is held, by a court of competent jurisdiction, to be invalid or unenforceable, such part of these Terms of Use shall be eliminated to the extent permitted in that jurisdiction, for purposes of that jurisdiction, and the remaining Terms of Use shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified. It is your responsibility to review these Terms of Use regularly.
