James Accattato

FRANKFORT – Mr. James Dominick “Coots” Accattato, age 70, a lifelong Frankfort resident, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon, January 9, 2021 due to heart complications. At the time of his passing he was in the hearts of those he loved most. Born on May 23, 1950, James is the son of Catherine (Cashman) Accattato and the late Dominick Accattato. He was raised and educated in Frankfort and was a graduate with the Frankfort-Schuyler High School Class of 1968. He also attended the Manlius Military Academy, SUNY Oneonta and was a graduate of SUNY Delhi. On May 4, 1974, Jim was wed to the former Patricia Sestir at St. John’s Church in Newport. Together, Jim and Pat shared in a loving and devoted union, spanning over forty-six years. As a couple, Jim and Pat were inseparable; they did everything together and their loving bond was incredible to witness. Jim was a successful entrepreneur and highly respected businessmen within his community. Along with his wife, he was the co-owner and agent for JDA Management Associates, Inc. and was instrumental in the building of fifteen senior housing developments in New York State. In his younger years, he also worked for the Social Security office and could be seen on weekend television, answering questions about the system. Aside from his career, Jim was heavily involved within his community and his generosity knew no bounds. He served on the Board of Trustees for Herkimer County Community College, was on the board and served as Chairman for Capital District OTB, and at one time stepped in as a board member for the Village of Frankfort during a time of need. He was also currently one of the longest active members of the St. Francis di Paola Society, a member of the Frankfort Kiwanis, and a life member and retiree of the Frankfort Fire Department. With all of his many ventures and meetings, Jim still found time to make his family a priority and was a doting husband, father and grandfather. One of his most enjoyable times was sitting down with his family for dinner. In his earlier years he was involved in Frankfort youth sports and was integral in the re-establishment of the CYO basketball program. His charitable ways were well-known, not only to his family and his community but to the many, many people he helped throughout the years and the countless friendships he maintained along the way. He would go above and beyond to assist those less fortunate and was a true philanthropist. At one time, Jim was proud to be involved in the Frankfort Starlighters Drum and Bugle Corp. In his spare time he could regularly be found at his Tuesday night poker games or out on the golf course; he was a longtime member of the Mohawk Valley Country Club. Jim’s winters were spent with his wife and friends in Ventura Village, Florida, where he had a beautiful home and created many lasting memories. His passing will leave a tremendous void in his family, friends and community but his legacy will forever live on in our hearts. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia; his daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Dominick Bellino of Frankfort; his son, Dominick Accattato and companion, Brittany Barker of Sylvan Beach; his grandchildren, Luciano and Adrianna Bellino, whom he absolutely adored; his sisters, Jeri Frederick and Judy Zipko; and his in-laws, Marian and Richard Grandy, Frank and Valerie Sestir and Monica and Fred Peek. He also leaves his aunt and uncle, Betty and R.A. Luke; numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins; countless close friends, with special mention of Jody and Mary Jean Grippe and Tony and Claudia Acquaviva; and who could forget his beloved dog, CoCo. Coots was predeceased by his father, Dominick Accattato; parents-in-law, Frank and Marion Sestir; his brothers-in-law, George Zipko and Steve Frederick; and many special aunts, uncles and cousins. Due to current health restrictions, the Accattato family will gather privately to bid their farewells. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church at the family’s convenience and spring entombment will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frankfort. For those wishing to do so, please consider a donation in Jim’s memory to a charity of one’s choice. Online notes of sympathy may be left at www.eneafamily.com.
