Giovanni (John) Colaneri July 3, 1929 - October 21, 2020 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father and nonno, Giovanni Colaneri on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Hogarth Riverview Manor, with family at his side. Giovanni was born on July 3, 1929 in Castelmauro, Italy to parents Antonio and Maria. He left his home along with his new bride Giuseppina, in June of 1958 to begin a new life in Canada. Giovanni worked as a labourer in construction where he developed his fine skills of cement finishing. There are a lot of basements, driveways and walkways around town with his handy work on display! He later went to work at Lakehead Newsprint for many years before retirement 26 years ago. Giovanni’s greatest passion was his family. He would say that a close family is worth more than all the money in the world. His kids and grandchildren were his pride and joy as was his wife Giuseppina (Josephine as many knew her). He loved to play with the grandkids and let them help in the garden and tell them Italian jokes that he thought were hilarious. With his boys and son-in law, there were many evenings after dinner spent near the woodstove accompanied by words of wisdom. He would spin tales of growing up in his village and then about life’s lessons from then to present. He always liked to be out in the yard during the day and took great pride in his garden. He had one of the best gardens in all of Westfort and if you happened to walk by, you were going home with something he grew. He also enjoyed dancing at any event and if he got you on the dance floor to do a polka, you were guaranteed to come off that dance floor with your head spinning. He was known for his spins. His daughter always looked forward to dancing with her dad. Whether at a summer backyard party or in the house for holiday dinners, there was a feast followed by music, dance, and, well, more food at the Colaneri house. Giovanni’s other passions were making wine, sausage and sauce. His homemade wine was excellent, which he was very proud of. You could not leave the Colaneri home without having at least a little taste. And when you did leave, you could not walk a straight line. If he had a cold, the remedy would be boiled wine. In fact, his wine was the remedy for most ailments! Giovanni was a life long member of the Italian Society and the DaVinci Centre. After Sunday lunch, he would head down to the DaVinci to play cards or bocce with his friends. Although not tall in stature, Giovanni was giant in the family - a hard worker who instilled his work ethic in his children and grandchildren. He was always doing something to keep busy. He will be a very hard act to follow, and is an inspiration to those who knew him. Giovanni is going to be greatly missed by his daughter Marie Hogan (Michael) with grandchildren Adam, Stefanie (Tyler) and Lisa, son Antonio (Kerry), son Lorenzo (Helen) with grandchildren Emma and Rubi, and son Micheal (Chrisandra) with grandson Liam. He is also survived by his sisters, Teresa Cianfagna, Filomenna Petta and Antonietta Sticca, his sister-in-law Maria Notaro, (Perth Australia) as well as many nieces and nephews, relatives in Italy, and close friends. Giovanni was predeceased by his parents, wife Giuseppina, brother Stefano, sister-in-law Teresa Colaneri, and brothers-in-law Giuseppe Cianfagna, Alfonso Petta, Mario Sticca, Pasqualino Notaro, Michele Mancini, and Nicolino Mancini. Special thanks to all of the doctors, nurses, PSW’s and staff of Daffodil North Hogarth Riverview Manor. What you do on a daily basis is saintly. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 27, 2020 at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church. Viewing will be from 9am-10am just prior to the mass. Funeral Mass will begin at 10am. Interment will follow in St Andrew’s Cemetery. Due to COVID there will be a limited number of guests. A celebration of life will take place at a later date to be announced. As directed by the Province of Ontario and the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, the attendance at the funeral and visitation is restricted to 30% capacity or less and a record of attendance must be maintained. Wearing of masks or face coverings by everyone and maintaining social distancing of 6 feet is mandatory for those attending the services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Giovanni Colaneri to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Ontario Lung Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James. “I’m better today than the day before” Giovanni Colaneri.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
