AL COOMBE It is with tremendous sorrow that the family of Allan (Al) Coombe announces his sudden passing on Sunday June 7th, 2020 at the age of 90. A loving husband to his cherished wife Marilyn for nearly 65 years. A wonderful supportive Father to Karen (Steve) and Scott (Anne) and extremely proud Grandfather, to Alexandra (George), Taylor (Christopher), William, Mackenzie and Spencer (Jesse). Al was born in Toronto, eventually settling with his parents Connie and Wally in Alderwood. There, with his 2 older sisters, Shirley and Barbara (Babs) and younger brother Ross they had the best house in the neighbourhood. There was always music and fun happening behind the picture window on Woodbury Ave. Many years later, Al bumped into one of the kids from the old neighbourhood 20 years ago, who said that everyone wished that they could live at the Coombe’s house. The Coombe’s were gifted with a strong work ethic. Everyone was working outside the home by the age of 16. Al first worked at a printing press, printing law books, he was found to be a hard worker, quickly being promoted to supervisor, alas, factory work wasn’t something he wanted to do. He took a pay cut and tried his hand at sales. This will sound funny, to those that know him now, but he was a very shy young man, and a career in sales was a huge leap. He was keen to learn and obviously found his niche. Eventually he moved on to Frigidaire Appliance sales, in the 50s it was part of the GM brand and right next door to the Appliance Store was Bruce MacDougall Motors, a Chevrolet dealer in Port Credit. We all know where that led, but you may not know that the pretty girl in the accounting department, Marilyn Hutchings, would become his one and only love, no kidding he said those words to me about a week ago. In 1963 he and his little family moved to Burlington, working first at J. Holland Motors which became Holland Chevrolet and then he became Dealer Principal at the new Burlington Toyota in 1971. For a few years in the late 70s early 80s BTI was Canada’s #1 Dealer. At that time, Al and Marilyn toured the world for automotive conventions, from Japan to Austria, England/Scotland, Thailand… on and on. Al really enjoyed people and took particular pride in his staff, Linda and Len Jones are nearly family, and when taking the cars for service since he retired, he still loved to visit with the “old” gang. Al retired in 1989, just before his 60th Birthday, and turned his attention to his 3 loves, his children and grandchildren….and Golf. Karen and Scott with their loves Steve and Anne, created families with the same values their parents demonstrated, with lots of love and fun and activity. The kids all learned to swim in Grampa’s pool, usually before they could talk. Marilyn and Al would always be in attendance at their games, performances and competitions. The girls, Alex, Taylor, Mackenzie and Spencer were dancers, and ice skaters, all 4 were soccer players and Spencer played Varsity football. Al was instrumental in getting Will on the ice, he taught Will to skate (at the age of 3) and play Canada’s game. All the kids play at Golf, but Al couldn’t have been prouder to have Will join BGCC and share the love of golf with him. I’m sure anyone who met Al knew how proud he was of his devoted Grandchildren. Then there was golf. Al belonged to BGCC for 43 years. He shot a game of 82 and 85 two years ago at the age of 88… got 2 holes in one and won Men’s B flight twice! On Friday June 5th he played his last round with his dear friends Joe, Jack and Carl. He fell ill that evening and passed on Sunday. At his recent 90th Birthday celebration he quoted Lou Gehrig, “today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth”. Dad often expressed how fortunate he was, fortunate to have had so much, a career filled with surprising success, loving friendships that endured and a family he adored as they did him. Predeceased by his Parents Walter (1978) and Constance (1982), Sisters, Shirley (1975) Barbara (Dec 2018) and younger Brother Ross (March 2020) Survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Bev and Steve Fryzuk, Bill and Linda Hutchings, Nieces Deborah, Carol, Gail, Catherine and Lori, and Nephews Jeffrey, Joel, David and Rick. He never met a man he didn’t like……true!

An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.

Indemnity. As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
