SHELLEY O’CONNOR October 22, 1968 – January 30, 2022 With profound sadness we announce the passing of Shelley Lee O'Connor, our loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and friend, on Monday, January 30, 2022. This is the obituary of a woman who lived an extraordinary life and touched the hearts of many around the world. She was born Shelley Guse, in Fort William, Ontario on October 22, 1968 to Leonard and Joan. With her Dad she learned to love to fish spending many hours out on the lake with him and her sisters. Mom taught her how to cook and how to be a wonderful mother. As a child many hours were spent on the front boulevard with her sisters doing cartwheels, at Heath Pool swimming and up and down the streets of Westfort riding bikes. Shelley loved the family camp in McKenzie and all the fun to be had while making precious memories. Shelley met the love of her life, Dennis O’Connor, at Buns Master Bakery where they both worked. It didn’t take them long to figure out that they were meant to spend their lives together. They married and went on to have their two boys, Mitchell and Andrew. Shelley’s water broke in the cafeteria at Lakehead University when Mitchell decided it was time to enter the world. Andrew waited until Mom had paid all the bills before joining the family. While raising her beautiful family Shelley continued to pursue her education. She studied for her CGA designation. While studying she worked for Air Liquide Canada and NEOS Products in their finance departments before moving to a career with Bombardier as a buyer. She worked her way up to senior buyer and eventually as Regional Commodity Buyer – Americas at Alstom. In her work with Bombardier/Alstom Shelley had the privilege of working with wonderful people here in Thunder Bay, at her office in Montreal and all around the world. She worked on an extended stay in Romania and it became one of her favourite places in the world. Her work family has expressed that they will miss her immensely. Shelley was known for her honesty, not holding back her opinion and had a knack for telling it like it is. She always told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. Although direct you couldn’t find a kinder more beautiful soul willing to help anyone in need. Shelley loved her family (particularly proud of her grandchildren), her work, camp, fishing and above all her dogs. Over the years Shelley has loved many dogs and would have a houseful if Dennis was not the voice of reason. In the last few years, during covid, Shelley began to paint and as with everything else she did she was brilliant. She would proudly share pictures of her latest works with her family and friends. She shared this love of painting with her precious little boys. Shelley was a collector of almost anything. She left behind a hell of a lot of stuff to her husband and sons who have no idea what to do with it. So if you’re looking for a couple of VCR’s, an original PlayStation or some Tupperware just let them know…….. You should wait the appropriate amount of time and get in touch. Tomorrow would be fine. She leaves behind a very dysfunctional family that she was really proud of. They include her husband, Dennis O’Connor; son Mitchell and daughter-in-law Brenda; son Andrew. Her beloved grandsons, William, Erik and Patrick. Also left to mourn are her sister Cheryl St James and husband Patrick; sister Francine Fitzgerald and husband Doug, Nanaimo BC; sister Michelle Guse and husband David Dunn, Pembroke ON. Shelley will be sadly missed by her sisters-in-law Gerrarda Serveillo, Kelly Wilson and husband Steve, Quebec, Darlene O’Connor and husband Steve, Quebec and Johanne St Laurent. She will be forever remembered by her many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Shelley was pre-deceased by her parents Leonard and Joan Guse; her mother-in-law Mary Ellen O’Connor and father-in-law Ken O’Connor; brothers-in-law Patrick O’Connor and Ken O’Connor; sister-in-law Coreen O’Connor. A celebration of Shelley’s life will be held in the summer. We will share the time and location at a later date. Donations to Autism Canada, Wesway Thunder Bay or Thunder Bay Humane Society are welcome and appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. Shelley will be dearly missed and held forever in our hearts. May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
