Hann, Edward Jordy April 16, 1929 - March 18, 2021 Jordy passed away peacefully on Thursday March 18, 2021 in his 92nd year, with the love of his life, Vera, at his side, as she had been for almost all of his adult life. Jordy was, above all, a kind and gentle man. He truly cared about others, treating everyone he met, from the very young to the very old and everyone in between, with respect, a smile, and quite often a good natured joke. He had a special ability to connect with anyone and everyone on their own terms. Young children whom he had just met called him Grandpa. Teenagers called him Jordy at his request. Everyone he met called him a friend. Indeed, Jordy was one of those unique people who will be fondly remembered by all those who knew him. While Jordy’s good nature and sense of humour were constant, he was equally a man of principle; his handshake was firm, he was honest, he knew right from wrong in unambiguous terms, and he expected the same of others. As Jordy saw the world, it was easy to be a good person and always do the right thing; you only had to be thoughtful, open, welcoming, respectful and kind. Being quiet, he led by example, and over 92 years his example never wavered. Jordy was also strong physically. For almost all of his 92 years, he led an active life with many pursuits. Outdoors he felt at home, from his childhood days in Newfoundland, to well into his eighties, he enjoyed fishing, hiking, golfing, gardening, farming and cross country skiing, in the woodlands and streams of Ontario as well as the foothills and mountains of Alberta where his daughter and her family came to settle and where he came to visit often. The cold never bothered him; even in very cold winter days he wore nothing on his head but his trademark ballcap. Indoors he worked on projects, fixing things, building things, taking pride in creating, maintaining, and being self-sufficient, and patiently teaching others including his children and grandchildren how to do the same. His gifts of fruits and vegetables from his gardens and eggs from his hens were as frequent as his gifts of wood carvings; and he always took as much pleasure in giving others the bounty of his work as he did in doing the work himself. Born in the small hamlet of Summerside, Newfoundland, Jordy was the third of 12 children to Herb and Katie Hann, the others being Dora, Harvey, Una, Herbert Junior, June, Hazel, Rosie, Ivor, Ernie, Woody and Tex. Like so many ‘Newfies’, when Jordy came of age he moved west to seek opportunities in Toronto and, while Newfoundland always held a special place in his heart, his new home richly rewarded him. Within days of arriving, Jordy began a 42 year career at Signode Canada, where he worked faithfully until he retired. But that run was nothing compared to his marriage. A short time after moving to Toronto, he met a young, lovely, bright and vivacious woman named Vera Frost, whom he soon married. Jordy and Vera then shared a life together for over 65 years, raising a daughter, Judy, and a son, Ernie, of whom Jordy and Vera were most proud and doting parents. Family meant everything to Jordy. He and Vera lived for their children. They were the classic parents whose goal in life was to provide for their children so they might enjoy a better life. Though Jordy’s schooling was cut a bit short, he gently pushed his children to study, and it was one of the great satisfactions of his life that his daughter Judy achieved a PHD, a University teaching position as well as running an Alberta Childrens Hospital Laboratory, that his son Ernie came to manage the sales department for his employer, and that his grandchildren earned various post secondary degrees and landed interesting and varied jobs as lawyers, scientists, service providers and in the case of one grandson, carpentry, truly a chip off the old block. Jordy also for many, many years, shared their home with Vera’s mother Nellie and Nellie’s brother Newman, as they were immediate family to Jordy too. As good as Toronto was to Jordy, his special place was the family cottage at Wasaga Beach, where the family spent summers and weekends. Jordy named it “Bide-A-While”, a whimsical reminder of his newfoundland origins. From there Jordy could wander with his kids to the beach and swim, chat with neighbours and friends, work on his many projects and launch many a fishing and boat trip. Jordy and Vera loved the area so much that, upon retirement, they left Toronto to build their dream home and design their hobby farm in Stayner, Ontario, where they could still make quick trips to the Beach but where they could also live in a small town community, the type of community where they felt at home, made new friends, and found new joys. They lived in a house that Jordy helped build and around which he planted forests and gardens. Stayner provided Jordy and Vera with the type of extended retirement years of which most couples can only dream, and they shared a rich and long number of well deserved golden years together. Jordy will be deeply missed by his wife Vera; daughter Judy (Mendy Chernos); son Ernie; grandchildren Matthew Chernos (Mélanie Ebsworth), Michael Chernos, Hannah Chernos, Mitchell Hann (Julia), and Kassidy Hann; sister Rosie Ivaney; brothers Ivor, Ernie and Woody Hann; as well as honorary grandchild Julie Arucan. The family warmly thanks the generous caregivers of the Stayner Care Centre for brightening Jordy’s last years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a cause near to your heart. Friends are invited to join Jordy's family for a graveside ceremony on Monday March 22, 2021 at the Stayner Union Cemetery at 2 'clock. My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Limitations of Liability. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
