John Blaise Sarnowski, 82, passed peacefully on March 27, 2022. Born in Schenectady, NY to his late parents, Ignatius and Hilda (Szymanski) Sarnowski.
A 1955 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, he was a member of the honorable Color Guard. After high school, he attended the University of Notre Dame. He left college to enlist in the United States Navy, where he served his country for 8 years.
On March 15, 1969, he married, Ruth Edith Fagle, at St. Mary’s Church in Schenectady. John’s Catholic faith was very important to him, he attended Mass at St. Mary’s Church. Together they raised their 3 children in Ballston Spa, NY.
For 37 years, John worked as a plant foreman at Niagara Mohawk in Glenmont, NY. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing and camping, especially to Warrensburg and to the picturesque views of Bar Harbor, Maine. John was a basketball and football fan, and in his spare time he liked to try his luck at the casino.
A proud American, he was a member of the Elks Club Lodge in Clifton Park and Ballston Spa. He will forever be remembered for his generosity, always trying to help others in need even before his own.
He is survived by his former wife, Ruth Sarnowski; loving children, David F. Sarnowski, Candace (Michael) Pucunas, Richard Sarnowski; cherished grandchildren, Michael John Pucunas and Matthew Pucunas, Darrell Sarnowski, Tiffany Sarnowski, and Ashley Sarnowski; great-grandchildren, Bradyn and Hunter Maynard; as well as cherished daughter-in-law, Karen Sarnowski.
A committal service officiated by Father Carlino with military honors will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Schenectady on Friday, April 1st at 11 AM.
