Olga (Ollie) Beckman (nee Malenko)
July 3, 1934 – April 27, 2021
It is with deep sadness that we announce the recent and sudden passing of our mother, Olga. Mom left the world as she lived it – with strength, dignity, and a calm grace.
Mom leaves behind to mourn her sons Gary, Dean (Jumi), and Brent; her sisters Verna, Betty (Cliff); as well as dozens of nieces, nephews, and a countless number of friends. She will be dearly missed by all those she left behind.
Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Jerry (Gerald), her parents William and Helen Malenko; sisters Victoria and Mary and her brothers, John, Alex, Peter, and Nick.
Mom was born and raised on the Malenko family farm near Sirko, Manitoba. After teaching at Sunbeam School (1951-1952) near Sundown, MB, she moved to Winnipeg in 1953 and spent four years working at Investors Syndicate before becoming a stay-at-home mother. She also worked part-time at Eaton’s until the birth of her third son. She returned to the paying workforce when her boys were well on their way to adulthood and worked for 25 years caring for the elderly at Bethania Personal Care Home. Along the way, she also developed herself into a professional seamstress and baker.
Though small in stature, mom was the backbone of our family and gave us all so much love, care and understanding. She was a friendly, warm-hearted person who enjoyed socializing and meeting new people. She especially loved to dance. The connection mom and dad had on the dance floor was truly a sight to behold and reflected the deep love they had for one another.
Special thanks go out to Dr. McKinnon and the staff in Unit 5E at the St. Boniface Hospital.
A warm-hearted thanks also goes out to her nieces Kim Poole and Vicky Hilderbrand who provided so much more for mom than can be expressed in words alone.
To fulfill our mom's wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has already taken place. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations can be made to Diabetes Canada or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Mom, it will not be long now until you and dad are cutting a rug up amongst the stars.
