Bruce E. Murphy, 69, of Highland Lakes, passed away on April 5, 2021.
Born in Paterson, Bruce was the son of the late James and Irma Murphy. He married Aleta Harrison in 1973 and the couple raised two children in Highland Lakes. Bruce coached many of his children’s sports teams and touched the lives of many children while doing so. In addition to being dedicated to his family, Bruce was also dedicated to his career. He as an engineering inspector for Wayne Township for almost 40 years. Bruce also worked as a bartender at several establishments in northern New Jersey.
Together, Aleta and Bruce rescued and gave a loving home to many animals over the years. Most recently, their home was filled with several rescue dogs. Bruce was happiest when surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Aleta; his daughter, Taryn L. Burgett and her husband Jeffrey; his son, Randall H. Murphy and his wife Aimee; his grandchildren, Shauna and Brody Murphy; his nieces Leah Pindilli and her husband Dion and Pamela Williams and her husband Larry and their children. He was predeceased by his brother, John C. Murphy.
Family and friends may visit from 2-4 & 7-9 pm on Thursday, April 8 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am on Friday at Our Lady of the Magnificat RC Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bruce’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Brick City Rescue.
