Mary Lou Arangio, born July 11, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY, passed away after a hard fought battle with acute myeloid leukemia, surrounded by her loving husband and daughters on July 8, 2022. Beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend- to know her, was to love her. She touched so many lives for the better. She was a true force of nature and the rock of her family. She was giving, loving, strong, funny and dynamic. She brought enthusiasm and excitement to every setting and found joy in the simplest of things. She loved politics, volunteering for John F. Kennedy’s presidential campaign before she could even vote. She loved her country and was a true patriot - so proud of the veterans in her family. She was a faithful Catholic and also a champion for women’s empowerment. She instilled in her daughters the grit and confidence to succeed in their careers. She inspired so many others to be their best and set their sights high. A woman of very humble beginnings, she landed a job in the recording industry (where she met her husband) working for music mogul, Don Kirshner, and rubbed elbows with top celebrities of the 1960s. She later served as an executive assistant and office manager in the Farmingdale Public Schools for 32 years (most of that time at Albany Avenue elementary school). Mary Lou was a dedicated parent volunteer and a popular Brownie troop leader and softball coach. She was a long time community activist and advocated for education and lobbied for additional education funding. She worked to secure development of the Airport Plaza Center which brought significant tax revenue to Farmingdale. She was President of the local PTA, a PTA regional representative and also President of the CSEA union for 20 years representing 190 members, working tirelessly to improve their benefits, salary and quality of life. In recognition of her many achievements, she was chosen as a NY State Senate 2008 Woman of Distinction. Her true legacy, however, was her family. She often said the happiest day of her life was the day she married her beloved husband of nearly 58 years, Tom. They were inseparable and he kept her laughing throughout her life. She was an ever present and selfless mother to her two daughters and the most involved, adoring grandmother to her five precious grandchildren. She was their greatest cheerleader and best friend. Mary Lou found pleasure in the simplest of things. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and watching her favorite cable news shows. She was beyond thoughtful and will always be remembered for the cards she regularly sent out with her own heartfelt messages to family and friends on birthdays and anniversaries, or just to say thank you. She never forgot a loved one. She enjoyed traveling to Europe, visits to her Florida home and truly relished and loved her beautiful life on Long Island. She is survived by her husband, Thomas, her daughters Jennifer (Chase) and Christina (Chad), her beloved grandchildren Amanda, Samantha, Megan, Tommy and Luke and her siblings Joan, Diane, and John. She is predeceased by her parents Philomena “Fannie” (nee Petrungaro) and Stephen Bevacqua. The wake will be held for Mary Lou on Monday, July 18, 2022 from 3-7 pm at McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home at 385 Main St. in Farmingdale, NY, 11735. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Maria Regina Catholic Church, 3945 Jerusalem Ave. Seaford, NY 11763 at 9:45 am. A committal service will be held immediately after at St. Charles/Resurrection Cemeteries at 2015 Wellwood Ave., Farmingdale, NY, 11735. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to two causes very close to her heart: Tunnels to Towers, www.T2T.org or the Down Syndrome Aim High Resource Center at the Center for Disability Services, www.cfdsny.org/donation-form. My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.
If in any part of these Terms of Use is held, by a court of competent jurisdiction, to be invalid or unenforceable, such part of these Terms of Use shall be eliminated to the extent permitted in that jurisdiction, for purposes of that jurisdiction, and the remaining Terms of Use shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified. It is your responsibility to review these Terms of Use regularly.
