James Hammond McLean (Jim), 85, of Franklin Lakes, N.J., is now at rest with the Lord. Jim is reunited with his beloved wife of 64 years, Ruth Anne McLean, who predeceased him by five weeks. Jim is survived by his two sons, Stephen and Douglas McLean; three grandchildren, Stephen McLean, Jr., Jaclyn Bassett, and Holly McLean; and seven great grandchildren, Evelyn, John, Cate, and Julie McLean, and Declan, Carolina and Mackenzie Bassett. Jim is also survived by his daughter-in-law Aimee McLean, granddaughter-in-law, Sarah McLean, and grandson-in-law Timothy Bassett. Jim was devoted to his wife and their family. His passing to eternal glory occurred peacefully in Valley Hospital holding the hand of his son, Douglas, as Aimee and Steve looked on virtually while holding him in spirit. Earlier in the day Jim had been surrounded virtually by the love of each child, grandchild and great-grandchild. He mustered just enough strength for one last wave good-bye to his great grandchildren. Jim was born in Bronxville, New York in 1934 to Evelyn and Alexander McLean. He had two older sisters, the late Ruth Harned and the late Barbara Dunker. Growing up during the latter days of the depression and World War II, Jim never was without a job: paperboy, store clerk, delivery boy, manufacturing worker. He graduated from Roosevelt High School. After a year of college at the University of Miami, he enlisted in the Army Signal Corps in order to gain access to the GI Bill to help pay for the completion of his college degree. Prior to his posting to Thule, Greenland he met Ruth Anne Laurentz at the Pondfield House restaurant in Bronxville. It was the beginning of a 65-year love affair. Within six months, they became engaged and eloped shortly before Jim began his tour of duty. He supplemented his GI salary by applying his skills amidst the frozen tundra to both 5 card and 7 card stud. After the Army, Jim returned to college at the University of Maryland until the birth of the couple’s first son necessitated Jim’s completion of college at night school so that he could work full time during the day. Three years later he graduated with an Accounting Degree from Iona College. Jim worked in accounting, financial planning and treasury functions for several New York and Newtown, PA based companies including Marine Transport, St. Joe Led, AMAX, Freeport Minerals and Thiokol. Ruth Anne and Jim raised their family in Yonkers, NY and Levittown, PA. Jim was a supportive presence in the lives and community of his sons. He coached Yonkers little league and was a Bronxville Scout Master. Jim was a gentle giant of a man who could hit a softball farther than any other little league coach or scoutmaster, make a mean stew and chop wood like Paul Bunyan. His love of nature was a blessed gift and legacy to us all. Jim and Ruth Anne moved to Midland Park and then Franklin Lakes to be a part of their grandchildren’s lives. Known lovingly as “G and G” by their grandkids, they never missed a soccer game, dance recital, play, or even a pick up or drop off. He perpetuated the family allegiance to the New York Yankees, swimming and the Hardy Boys book series. They loved their occasional trips to the land down under to visit Douglas who moved to Australia in 1986 became an Australian citizen in 1992. Jim continued to do consulting work after the move. Jim and Ruth Anne were devoted members of Hawthorne Gospel Church. He was a member of the Gideons. They loved Christ and shared their faith, passing it on to all whom they knew. As Ruth Anne’s medical challenges mounted, Jim was ever at her side devoted to her recovery and convalescence. During her stays for surgery at Valley Hospital and Christian Healthcare Center, Jim became a familiar presence, himself requiring at first one cane, then two, then a walker, but always there whatever the time, with a perpetually cheery attitude and warm smile to help the woman he loved so dearly. His beautiful, deep resonant voice was a cherished way to start every birthday as Jim and Ruth Anne would make it a point to be the first to call and sing. The Gentle Giant was a sterling role model of hard work, devotion to family and self-sacrifice. While all are happy that with the couple reunited, the 65-year love affair has resumed for eternity, Grandpa Jim is forever loved and desperately missed by those left behind. My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
