BELOVED MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER, DAUGHTER, COLLEAGUE, AND FRIEND Dorothy was born in the small town of Volga, South Dakota to her first generation Norwegian parents, Evelyn and Clifton Bjerke. Growing up in rural South Dakota, she experienced a magical childhood only the farm and her small town community could create. Dorothy, or as her friends and family called her, Dot, would tell you her days on their farm were filled with making Norwegian Lefse with her mother and aunts, driving the tractor with her father, playing with her dog Lassie, and creating lifelong friendships at school and church. Her early days on the farm began her life long love with nature and her dedication to preserving the natural world. Some of Dorothy's most striking attributes were her courage and bravery, her warmth and patience, her absolute selflessness, and her steadfast nature. At the age of 21, she demonstrated her courage by leaving home and traveling to Denver to seek out adventure and opportunity. While many in her small town of Volga stayed close to home, she packed up her VW Bug and ventured into the unknown. While this is commonplace today, this audacious move was most definitely out of the ordinary for a farm girl from Brookings, South Dakota. Walking into the doors of KMGH Channel 7 in 1961, her bravery and amazing smile opened the door to her first professional job as secretary to the General Manager, where she met our dad, Richard Neale. She married and found a new home in Colorado. It wasn’t until later in her life that she found her professional calling in HR. As her friends and colleagues from Jacobs Engineering would attest, Dorothy’s patience and compassion for others served her well in this field. She excelled in her position and earned the respect of her co-workers and friends. Dorothy maintained lifelong friendships with so many people who remained in Volga and Brookings. Everytime we traveled back to South Dakota, we would experience the true essence of farm life and her community. In her new life in Colorado, she forged lasting friendships with her “Iris Way '' neighbors, Holy Cross Lutheran church members, and her work colleagues. It was because of her steadfast nature and selflessness that she was able to maintain those connections and impart these values to her daughters and to her grandchildren. While she always had the spirit of adventure in her heart, it wasn’t until later in life she was afforded the opportunity to venture to the destinations of her dreams. From trips to Alaska and most notably Machu Picchu, Dorothy was able to realize her adventurous side. Dorothy was an avid naturalist. She was a dedicated member of the Sierra Club and was an experienced birder with a passion for the natural world. Even before environmental activism was popular, Dorothy recognized the need and was dedicated to preserving the planet. Her love for the city of Denver was apparent as she took advantage of the arts and culture, the food, and the beauty that can be found in the city. She was a member of the Denver National History Museum, Denver Art Museum and the Botanic Gardens. Dorothy also had a passion for biking, whether it was a ride downtown to work, a scenic trip to Ft. Collins, or her participation and completion of 3 Courage Classic Bike Tours. Throughout her life, she met with hardships; however, despite any pain or sorrow she may have experienced, none would be the wiser. She met adversity with her peaceful nature and determination to keep going. Our Mom’s unwavering positivity served as a guide for all who were lucky enough to know her. Her kindness and fierce determination inspired those who she grew up with, worked with, traveled with, and especially those with whom she raised and nurtured— Kristine, Erica, Amy. Dorothy is survived by her children Kristine Heller (Denver) and Erica Daly (Patrick), Amy Neale (Tony) and by her beloved grandchildren, Cooper Shayler, Zach Shayler, and Delilah Daly. My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.
If in any part of these Terms of Use is held, by a court of competent jurisdiction, to be invalid or unenforceable, such part of these Terms of Use shall be eliminated to the extent permitted in that jurisdiction, for purposes of that jurisdiction, and the remaining Terms of Use shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified. It is your responsibility to review these Terms of Use regularly.
