Very sad day when I heard he had passed. Tom and I had planned to attend the visitation but the weather wasn't cooperating for us to travel to Kemptville I'm so sorry we were not able to personally give hugs. Douglas Arnold Eldon was born to Ernest and Gwen Charter on November 30th, 1927. He was one of three children, along with his sister Merle and his younger brother Harold. Doug's adventures started in his early years, when he ran away from home... twice. The first time he made it as far as Brockville. The second time he had higher aspirations. He and a sea cadet buddy decided they wanted to see the world.... Australia to be precise. The plan was to make their way to Vancouver and set sea from there. They made it as far as Kingston before being picked up by the provincial police and shipped back home -the world would have to wait. Doug always had a passion for cars. By the age of 15, when most young boys are satisfied with model cars, Doug had managed to save 50 dollars by doing odd jobs. He had his eye on a 1928 Plymouth. He bought the car, but being too young to drive it, he had to call his Father. His Dad, however, did not share his excitement.... the car would have to wait. Doug graduated from Nepean High School and Ottawa Tech, and at the age of 20 was chosen from several hundred candidates for entry to the Ford Automotive Trade School in Windsor. His home for the next few years was the YMCA and various boardinghouses while he completed his courses, graduating as a Journeyman and Tool Maker. His next stop was Montreal where he worked at GE during the week. He returned to Ottawa most weekends, and that is when he spotted Joyce Parks, a pretty little nursing student from the Ottawa Civic Hospital. They fell hopelessly in love. They were married in 1953 in a double ceremony with Russ and Joyce's sister Corrine at the North Gower United Church, the same church where years later his son Ian and Kim would be wed. Doug and his new bride were living on Cadillac street in Montreal when Debby, the first of 4 children, was born at Montreal General Hospital. She was followed by Cheryl, Ian and Brian. In 1956 , with a growing family and wanting to have the comfort of their own home and yard, they moved to 48 13th Ave in Roxboro, their home for the next 33 yrs. Throughout the years Doug accomplished many things. He and Joyce cleared the land on Lac Quenueilles where our cottage was built. Much of his time there was involved in building, maintaining and even moving the outhouse, and occasionally rescuing Cheryl from trees she had climbed without a plan to get back down. He became an active member and eventual President of the Vintage Automobile Club. In 1966 he started a 4yr night program at McGill University and received his Certificate of Industrial Management, later becoming President of the Quebec Association for CIM. In his 2nd year he studied during the night at Brian's bedside in the Montreal General Hospital, keeping a close eye on his baby boy while he recovered from surgery. Throughout the years Doug continued to work hard and wore many hats. He threw himself into whatever he decided to do and received many accolades as a result. After 35 yrs of hard work and dedication Doug retired from Aviation Electric after having made his way to the top of the ladder. He had given nothing but his best, and made many friends along the way. Mom and Dad, now back in the Ottawa Valley, continued to romance each other at every chance, and when they were not golfing, entertaining, traveling to Texas or enjoying friends and family they were seen walking hand and hand through life. Doug was a gentleman, a man of integrity and generosity. He was wise and loved to learn. He was a loyal and true friend and treated everyone as equals without judgement. He believed in well polished shoes and always returning a borrowed item in better condition than he received them. Doug loved books, anything with an engine and Jo's cooking, but most of all he loved his family, and Dad we loved you back. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his wife Joyce Charter (nee Parks),daughter Debby (Bob), Cheryl (Chris), son Ian (Kim), Brian (Linda). Grandchildren Michael, Sarah, Marc, Ryan, Mitch, Kyle, Matt and his brother Harold. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kemptville District Hospital.

Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.

Limitations of Liability. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
