Ted Martens, 96, a resident of Kinnelon, NJ passed away peacefully on June 1st.
Ted was born in Montclair, NJ on February 23, 1925. He was raised in Cedar Grove, NJ and graduated from Bloomfield HS. During World War II Ted enlisted in the United States Navy (USN) and served in the Pacific. He was honorably discharged from the USN in 1946. He then worked as a Field Engineer with the Burroughs Corporation for nearly 40 years. Ted had numerous interests, but particularly enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. He built many pieces of furniture in his garage workshop over the years. He enjoyed sports and was a lifelong Yankees and Giants fan.
After his retirement in 1986, he traveled extensively on cruises and train excursions with his beloved wife of 55 years, Eileen (Grassman).
Ted is survived by his 3 children: Ted (Marianne) living in Demarest, NJ,Jacquelyn living in Madison, WI and Eric (Shelley) living in Dallas, TX, and 7 grandchildren: Kelly, Maribeth, Ted, Derek, Caitie, Justin and Kylee, and 5 great-grandchildren: Kiera, Liam, Corrado, Luciano and Abigail. He is pre-deceased by his wife, Eileen. Ted was a parishioner at Our Lady of Magnificat in Kinnelon.
Visitation will be at the Scanlan Funeral Home in Pompton Plains, NJ Tuesday June 8 th at 9:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Magnificat Chapel at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Our Lady of Magnificat Church or Disabled American Veterans.
