It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vivian Victoria (Vavra) Friesen on May 28, 2021, at the age of 89 years. Vivian was predeceased by her husband Don, parents John and Anna Vavra, sisters Mary, Marion, Theresa, Evelyn, brothers Frederick, and John, and many aunts and uncles. She is survived by her sons, Dallas (Sharon), Darcy (Carrie), and daughters Jae (Neil) and Allyson (Ken); grandchildren Jaron, Caverly, Alana, Drew, Ian, and Sam; her siblings Ann Romanoski, Bill Vavra, Veronica Orton-Johnson, and Barbara Fletcher; aunt Elizabeth Hardy; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Vivian was a first generation Canadian, born the sixth child of eleven to Czechoslovakian (Hungarian) immigrants. Her family homesteaded a farm near Outlook, Saskatchewan, on the South Saskatchewan River valley. It continues to be a treasured family gathering place, and the farm and river valley were one of Vivian's favourite places. Vivian left public school at 16 to support her family, and eventually, work took her to Saskatoon. She stayed with her Aunt Mary and Uncle Jimmy Girgulis and worked at their restaurant, the Elite. Her eldest sister, Theresa, encouraged her to take a commercial course and she landed a job at Dunn & Bradstreet as the Office Manager. It was during this time she met a mercantile reporter named Don. The couple was married in Saskatoon in 1956. Soon after, Don began his lifelong career in Municipal Administration, working, living, and growing their family in Mayfair, Hafford, Luseland, and Hudson Bay. Vivian often worked alongside Don, supporting with administration duties, and it was also in these rural Saskatchewan towns, where Vivian honed her cooking skills in delectable cultural dishes, such as halupki, pierogi, and numerous soups and baking. The family moved to Dawson Creek in 1973, when Don accepted the position as City Clerk. The move to Dawson Creek afforded Vivian the opportunity to work outside the home and she flourished in a variety of positions with School District 59, most notably as payroll clerk. She revelled in the meticulous work and was appreciated by many new teachers for providing important benefits and payroll tips. Vivian retired in 1997. It was no coincidence that Vivian’s work supported education; she was a voracious supporter of higher education and taking courses to better oneself. Nearly 40 years after leaving high school, and after helping her own children graduate from high school, university, and other post-secondary endeavors, Vivian went back to school to attain her GED. This is a prime example of Vivian’s perseverance and tenacity that she demonstrated throughout her life. Vivian also held many volunteer positions for several organizations in Dawson Creek including board member of the Peace Country Highland Dancing Association, Dawson Creek Public Library, Camp Emile, and was a trustee for Notre Dame School. Most dear to her heart were her roles with the Dawson Creek Hospital Auxiliary, and as a faithful member of the Notre Dame Catholic Church. Many will remember her singing in the choir and supporting the Seniors’ Lunch through the Catholic Women’s League. Vivian was a strong advocate for volunteering your time, especially to someone or something, with no promise of personal gain, just in the spirit of lending a helping hand. Vivian had a deep love and commitment of family. She was enormously proud of her four children and deeply devoted to her six grandchildren. She loved nothing more than to share in their latest activities or accomplishments. She loved her friends and cherished her time travelling, singing, camping, and going out for meals and drives; she loved any opportunity for an adventure, a story, and a cheeky joke. Vivian’s life took a sudden and surprising turn in late January 2021, when she was diagnosed with advanced stage pancreatic cancer. She battled with grace, kindness, and gratitude to the very end. More than ever, she inspired the power of prayer, the power of thought, and the power of feeling for someone other than yourself. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Funeral services at the Notre Dame Church will be limited to family only due to current Provincial Health Order restrictions. Interment to take place at the Brookside Cemetery in Dawson Creek, BC. Vivian’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Daniel Botha Sr., and the staff at Rotary Manor, Dawson Creek& District Hospital, and the Grande Prairie Queen Elizabeth II Hospital for their professional care and personal compassion. Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
