COOKE, Dorothy Jean
December 28, 1925 - May 23, 2022
Dorothy Jean Cooke passed away peacefully in the evening of Monday, May 23, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Joe Cooke, a wonderful mother to Lani, John (Laura), Jennifer, Tracey (Andrew), Kaireen (John) and Joni (Jose). She leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was born on a family in Lochwinnoch and grew up in the town of Renfrew. She studied Social Work at the University of Toronto, and worked for the Children's Aid before she married and returned home. Dorothy was a wise and wonderful listener, devoting her full attention to people, always alert and interested. She prepared lovely family meals at her home in Renfrew and at the family cottage of the Ottawa River. Dorothy was an incredibly talented painter, as her children grew up she was able to spend more time studying art and learning new techniques in water colour and life drawing. Her brilliant painting can be found in many homes in the Ottawa Valley and beyond.
With her husband Joe her side they became great friends to the developmentally disabled and served as founders of the first Community Living in Renfrew County. Later on in their retirement years, Dorothy and Joe played host to friends and family at their sugar bush in Admaston. Dorothy lived out her final years surrounded by the wonderful people at Quail Creek Retirement Home.
Dorothy's final care has been entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, 85 Munroe Avenue East, Renfrew where visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 6:00 until 8:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Trinity St. Andrew's United Church, Renfrew on Friday morning at 11:00am. A private family interment will be held at Goshen Cemetery.
