Legacy of William Henry Browne (Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa ) Born in Toronto on January 16, 1926 he grew up on a Market Farm along a stretch of road known as Brown’s Line in Etobicoke, ON. At 17 he joined the Navy and after the war he enrolled into the Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture, Niagara Falls, Canada in 1945 - graduating in 1948. Niagara Falls is where he met and married our Mother Marcelle Thomas. His first job took him to Victoria, Vancouver Island, BC as Assistant Head Gardener at Butchart Gardens. They lived in a house on the grounds along with their first two children - Tom and Susan. In 1951 he moved to Waterloo, ON taking on the position of Park Superintendent for the City of Waterloo. During this era three more kids were added to the family - Joanne, Bill, Jr. and Marilynn. In the mid-50’s he became involved with the Ontario Parks Association’s restructuring. He was elected President in 1957. 1959-1973 he was employed with The Township of Scarborough as Scarborough Parks and Recreation Director 1973-1975 he took a job at Edmonton Parks as their Director of Maintenance and Construction. 1975 moved on to Burnaby Parks, Burnaby, BC. His last place of employment up until his retirement in 1993 was with Vancouver Parks as their Manager of Arboriculture and Horticulture. In the early 80’s he pursued his singing passion and became a Barbershopper with New Westminster, BC for about 18 years. He travelled to many competitions with the Gentlemen of Fortune and the Four Fifties. Once retired he started Bill’s Little Tree Farm on his daughter’s property in Maple Ridge, BC. He specialized in uncommon tree types not readily available from most tree outlets. His emphasis was on small trees having unique shapes, leaf colours, leaf forms and most suitable for small gardens, patios and balconies. All his trees were grown from seed he collected from parent trees in Pacific North West or Southern Ontario. During this time he toured Riverview Hospital grounds in Coquitlam, BC looking for ornamental tree seeds. Riverview was noted to have many wonderful and near extinct trees. During this time there were plans to redevelop the land into various types of housing. A group of Riverview retired nurses along with Dad and his knowledge wanted the area preserved. They formed a volunteer group called Riverview Horticulture Society. They had weekly walks educating people about the special trees that were there. This finally got the governments attention. They have now began construction of new health care facilities on the land while at the same time preserving this Historical Arboretum. He enjoyed his family which included 5 children, 13 grandkids and 14 Great Grandchildren. Through many years he took great interest in tracing his family tree and loved his home and garden, which itself is a Mini Butchart Gardens. What turned out to be his last day at home at age 94 his son Bill, Jr. took him for a drive through Riverview Hospital grounds. He made a statement during this drive ‘I think this is the end of the trail for me and I’m going to miss my home’. Sadly this turned out to be true as the very next day he was admitted into the hospital. William Henry Browne was a man who through his passion, determination and hard work in the horticulture field along with raising a large family earned his mark in life which should be celebrated.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.
If in any part of these Terms of Use is held, by a court of competent jurisdiction, to be invalid or unenforceable, such part of these Terms of Use shall be eliminated to the extent permitted in that jurisdiction, for purposes of that jurisdiction, and the remaining Terms of Use shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified. It is your responsibility to review these Terms of Use regularly.
