Michelina Piserchia, 78, of Kearny, formerly a longtime resident of Belleville, died Saturday, January 8, 2022.
Born in the town of Andretta in Avellino, Italy, Michelina was one of five children born to Francesco and Caterina Tellone. Marrying Giuseppe Piserchia, the couple immigrated to the United States when they were in their early 20s. Settling first in Newark, they moved to Belleville where they happily raised two children.
Though she primarily stayed home to care for her family, Michelina was a gifted seamstress, and worked when she could in the textile industry that was so prominent in Northern New Jersey. Always a very social woman, she greatly enjoyed being with her family, as well as her many friends. A talented cook, she was always making a cake, a meal, or a treat for someone.
She adored her grandchildren most of all. They will fondly remember her for her generous, big heart, her humor, and her devotion to her family.
Michelina is lovingly survived by her children, Marina Rizzi and her husband Donato, and Frank Piserchia and his wife Marybeth; her sister, Lisa; and her grandchildren, Monica Rodriguez and her husband Michael, Mario Joseph Rizzi, Joseph Piserchia, and Juliana Piserchia. She was predeceased by her husband, Giuseppe, as well as her siblings, Fedele, Franco, and Maria.
Funeral services will be held privately for the family.
