Souter, Linda Franklyn Souter November 16, 1930 – October 27, 2022 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Souter at Fairview Manor Nursing Home in Almonte on October 27, 2022. Linda was in her 93rd year. She is predeceased by her husband Peter, son Christopher, grandson Braedon and brother George Palmer. Linda will be greatly missed by her daughter Lynn Carss (predeceased Mark Thomas), son Richard (predeceased Jennifer), grandchildren Chelsea Carss (Nicholas), Caitlin Carss (Dan), Quinn Perks (John), greatgrandchildren Sophie, Adeline, and Alex. Linda was born to Pixie and Leo Palmer in Montreal where she grew up and graduated with a BA from McGill University. Having moved to Ottawa with her parents, Linda and her mother were returning on the train from a Thanksgiving weekend shopping expedition when fate played a hand. A newly arrived British mining engineer, Peter Souter joined them in the dining car. Linda and Peter were married two years later and made their home in Sudbury, Ontario raising their three children Lynn, Chris, and Richard. In 1982 they moved to Ottawa and split their time between Ottawa and their condo at Mont Tremblant. They shared a loving marriage for over 60 years. Linda was equally adept at sewing tailormade clothes, cooking gourmet meals, swooping down a ski hill, teaching swimming to children with disabilities, and acting as first mate on a sailboat. Linda’s values of the importance of family, giving back to the community, advocating for women and children throughout the world was a guiding light for her children and grandchildren. A major focus in Linda’s life was her advocacy for women and children through her years with both the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) and International Federation of University Women (IFUW). “I dream of a world where the daughters of our children and their children’s children will be valued for who they are and who they can be; where they will be free to laugh, to play, to explore, to study and learn so they can reach their potential; where they can grow to womanhood in homes and communities where they are free from fear, discrimination, violence and war.” Linda Souter This lyrical statement eloquently expresses the philosophy of Linda’s drive to champion rights for women through CFUW and IFUW for more than three decades. With clear vision, energy and inspired leadership, Linda gave thousands of Canadian women an articulate voice and later gave that same voice to women of the 71 national affiliated associations that then comprised the IFUW. The family are forever grateful for the loving care that the staff of Fairview Manor provided Linda over the last years of her life. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2023 when we can come together to honor and remember all Linda contributed to her family and the world at large. My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.
If in any part of these Terms of Use is held, by a court of competent jurisdiction, to be invalid or unenforceable, such part of these Terms of Use shall be eliminated to the extent permitted in that jurisdiction, for purposes of that jurisdiction, and the remaining Terms of Use shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified. It is your responsibility to review these Terms of Use regularly.
