On a more personal note, my Grandmother Mabel Holdenby McBride spoke very fondly of her school days with your grandmother Susan (Susie). I know that they corresponded at Christmas for many years and my Grandma was always so pleased to hear from a dear school mate. SCHELL, John Arnold Passed away peacefully, with his three children by his side, on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at the Village of Taunton Mills, Whitby. He was in his 97th year. Arn was the loving husband of Joan (deceased in March 2018) for 69 years. They were married on July 10, 1948. Arn was a devoted father to Connie Picken (Al), Wes Schell and Bev Rancier (Jim). Amazing Grandfather to Greg Picken (Kim), Steve Picken (Tina), Bryan Rancier (Kortney), James Rancier, Chelsea Hill (Luke), Kaitlin Conroy (Wes) and James Larmer (Stephanie). Proud Great Grandfather to Jaina, Grayson, Bryar, Raelyn, Amelia, Jill, Ryker, Coraline, Avery, Benjamin and Tessa. Arn was predeceased by his parents, Wesley and Susan Schell, and his brother Harry Schell. He is survived by his brother Percy Schell (Dot), sister Marie Cote (Joe), and sister-in-law Barbara Schell. Uncle Arn will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Arn was born and raised in Stouffville, Ontario where he attended school and also worked alongside his father and two brothers at Schell Lumber. After high school, Arn attended the University of Toronto and part way through joined the armed forces where he became a lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Artillery. When stationed with the Artillery, Arn played Provincial Hockey for Shilo, Manitoba. After being discharged, Arn returned to the University of Toronto where he played Junior B Hockey, faculty football and was on the water polo team. In 1947, Arn began his teaching career in Wallaceburg, Ontario where he taught Mathematics and Physical Education, as well as coached many team sports. Arn’s involvement in sports while living in Wallaceburg was so extensive, that he was inducted into the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame. Joan and Arn enjoyed their first few years of marriage while in Wallaceburg. In 1956, the Schell family settled in Oshawa and Arn began teaching at O’Neill C.V. I. Once again, his talents were put to good use in the physical education and mathematics departments. Sports were keen interests of Arn’s and many Friday nights were spent at the Kinsman Stadium coaching football. Track and field, basketball and gymnastics were also keen interests. Arn has always enjoyed music, singing and especially playing his trombone. In 1963, Arn taught at R.S. McLaughlin C.V.I. and then returned the following year to O’Neill C.V.I as Vice Principal. He did not remain in the role of Vice Principal for long and in 1967 was promoted to Principal at Dr. F.J. Donevan C.I. In September 1971, Arn returned to O’Neill C.V.I. as Principal. He spent ten years there before retiring in 1981. For Arn, school was just not about academics as he encouraged students and staff to become involved in the many aspects that a school can offer. He believed in striving for excellence, developing a positive attitude and maintaining a sense of humour. He encouraged staff and students to work hard, but to also have fun. Arn has always been a role model and he would practise what he believed. For a few years after Arn retired, he could be seen helping out at King West Landscape Ltd., supporting his son, Wes Schell, as the business grew. Family weekends at the cottage on Sturgeon Lake were enjoyed by all. Joan and Arn also travelled extensively and loved their winters in Florida. Arn enjoyed his work with the Rotary Club of Oshawa and was a loyal member of Northminster United Church. Dad’s kind heart, wonderful sense of humour and zest for life will be remembered by his many family members, friends and colleagues. The Schell family is very grateful for the compassionate care that Dad received from all the staff at the Village of Taunton Mills, including the Egerton and Emma Communities. Due to the Covid Pandemic, a private family service will take place. Memorial donations to the Terry Fox Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by Arn’s Family. We honour a truly remarkable gentleman!

When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
