ILION – Betty Jean Filkins, 68, a lifelong resident of Ilion, New York, died on Thursday evening, August 19, 2021, at Siegenthaler Center, Town of Kirkland, New York.
She was born on February 5, 1953, in Ilion, New York, a daughter of the late Milton Allan and Alice Louise (Elthorpe) Palmer. She attended school in Jordanville. Betty obtained her associate degree in accounting from Herkimer County Community College. She was a well known cashier at the Big M, in Ilion, for many years. She was a seamstress and loved to talk and engage in conversation with friends and family.
She is survived by her beloved family, her children, Sean Filkins, Sr., of Ilion, Wendy Apholz and her husband, Chris, of Amsterdam and Leigh Filkins, of Broadalbin; her brother and sister-in-law, David Palmer and his wife, Jody, of Cedarville; her grandchildren, Sean Filkins, Jr., Joshalynn Wagner and Mitchell Wagner; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Janet Archer.
Calling hours at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, in Ilion, New York, will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM. Then, interment will take place at Burlington Flats Cemetery.
