We were very sorry to hear of Ray's passing. As a fellow member of the local dental society, we had many memorable events over the years and nobody provided better support than Ray and Evelyn. Ray was a good man, a credit to his profession and had a long and successful life. Our condolences to Evelyn and all the members of your family.

The family of Dr. Ray Knight sadly share the news of his passing at the age of 97. Ray is survived by his wife Evelyn, together for 69 years. Ray and Evelyn lovingly raised four children and he will be sadly missed by Nancy and Gil Smith, Scott Knight and Carol Gibson, Todd and Ingrid Knight and Corey and Donna Knight. Ray was “Grandpa Doc” to Callie and Andrew Murray, Lauren and Kyle Karn, Dr. Tristan Knight (Dr. Lindsey Carvalho), Andrew Knight, Dr. Samantha Knight, Tayler Knight (Mike Alden), Lucas Knight (Sophie Janauskas) Jeff and Sheri Smith and Julie Smith and great grandchildren Kay, Tess and Brant Murray, Jack Karn, Lexi Smith, Lily and Jax. Ray was a graduate of the University of Toronto school of Dentistry. He made long lasting friendships there and many more friends, while practising dentistry in St. Thomas for over forty years. Ray loved dentistry and was dedicated to providing the best possible care for his patients; he retired in 1991. Locally, Ray was a past member and president of the St, Thomas Lions Club, the Elgin Dental Association, the Western Ontario Dental Study Group, the Elgin Military Museum, and the St. Thomas Power Squadron. He served for 26 years in the Canadian Dental Corp, attached to the Elgin Regiment, attaining the rank of Major. Ray was a long time member of the St. Thomas YMCA and an earlier adopter of “jogging”. He could be found spending his lunch hours running with life long friend Bob Francis. Ray learned to swim at the age of 45. Ray and Evelyn shared their much loved island, summer home on Georgian Bay with family and friends creating many happy memories. Ray and Eve loved the natural beauty of the ”Bay” and their enthusiasm along with cottage tradition rubbed off on many within the family and beyond. Having been introduced to and bitten by the “cottage bug” Many former guests became cottagers as well. Ray always had a special spot in his heart for neighbours around the Bay, who often became life long friends. Ray was methodical and happiest “puttering” at the cottage in a faded T-shirt and torn shorts. He could often be found in the “tool house”, trying to “fix” something. Ray also enjoyed photography and his methodical nature required getting the subjects posed, the camera focused and settings just so, resulting in a certain amount of impatience from others. Photography lent itself well to Ray and Evelyn’s enthusiasm for travel. Ray‘s photos captured memories of cruises throughout various parts of the world and winters spent in Mexico. Ray liked cars and his favourites were convertibles. Over the years he owned a red 1956 Oldsmobile convertible, a Triumph TR4 and a Mazda RX7. Ray and Evelyn enjoyed dancing and spent many happy years participating in ballroom dancing. As retirement approached, he took up a new hobby making jewellery and enjoyed sharing his creations with family. While Ray’s hands have now been stilled, this follows a long and satisfying life. Ray was predeceased by his parents Olga and Emerson Knight and a sister, Rita Bernard. Our heartfelt thanks are extended to the Metcalfe Gardens family and the Complex Continuing Care Unit staff at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, where Ray experienced so much kindness, care and patience. We are truly touched. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570). Reception to be held at a later date. Internment of ashes in Union United Church Cemetery. If desired, donations to the STEGH Foundation would be appreciated. My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.
If in any part of these Terms of Use is held, by a court of competent jurisdiction, to be invalid or unenforceable, such part of these Terms of Use shall be eliminated to the extent permitted in that jurisdiction, for purposes of that jurisdiction, and the remaining Terms of Use shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified. It is your responsibility to review these Terms of Use regularly.
