BROWNSBURG – Linda Lou Crouse, 83, passed away in her Brownsburg home on October 6, 2023.
Linda was born in Wakarusa, IN on December 28, 1939 to Harry and Parthenia Louise Horn. After graduating from Wakarusa High School in 1958, she earned her BS in elementary education from Ball State Teacher’s College (now Ball State University) in 1962. Linda later earned her Masters in Education from Indiana State University.
Linda started her career as an elementary school teacher in Elkhart, IN, but spent most of her career in various Wayne Township Schools, retiring after over 30 years of teaching second and fourth grades, and gifted and talented programs. During this time, she was active in the teacher choir and had been honored by Ben Davis graduates for being an extraordinary teacher and
Linda approached life with zeal, and taught her two daughters to advocate, to take a stand with courage, and to get involved in issues that matter through her own actions. She was an officer in her teacher’s union, and served as vice-chair of her precinct in local politics while her children were in high school, engaging them in serving at the polls even before they could vote. Once her grandchildren were born, Linda’s focus shifted more closely to her family. She loved cruises, Jazzercise, walking in Eagle Creek Park, and reading. Linda doted on her three grandchildren, participating in marching band “box mom” duties, attending endless music concerts and events, and cheering them on from the stands at sporting events. Linda was a loving wife to James N. Crouse, who she met in college, married in 1962, and remained together until his death in January 2020.
Linda will be deeply missed by her daughters, Teri Crouse and Jacqui Crouse Huber (Dan); her grandchildren, Jenifer Huber, Ryan Huber (Brittany Rudd), Emily Huber Douglas (Cedric); and her great-grandchildren, Henry, Benjamin, and Samara.
A Memorial Service will be held at Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W 10th St, Indianapolis, IN 46224, on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 2:00pm, with the Rev. Teri Crouse officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. https://act.alz.org/site/Donation2?df_id=32112&32112.donation=form1
