Thomas Savino (Tommy) of Somerville MA (Formerly Pequannock) died Tuesday December 7th 2021 after a long hard fought cancer battle at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. He was 27.
Born in Pequannock. Tommy was the son of Trish and Tom Savino and brother of Kristi Savino. Raised in Pequannock. He was a graduate of Pequannock High School. He went on to study and graduate from Rutgers University (New Brunswick) and played for the University’s hockey team.
He was currently working his dream job at DraftKings in Boston, MA.
Tommy held a lifelong love of ice hockey. He was proud of his time and memories with the Montclair Blues, Wildcats, Pequannock Township High School Hockey team, Montclair State University, and Rutgers University. For many years, he coached young players at Floyd Hall Arena and was a regular referee. He also loved to play golf especially with his Dad.
When Tommy wasn’t playing sports you could see him watching sports. A very passionate fan of Rutgers football and basketball, New York Jets, New York Mets, Boston Red Soxs, Boston Bruins,and the Tampa Bay Lighting. He was also a lifelong and passionate New Jersey Devils fan, a bond he shared with his sister.
Besides sports, he just loved having a good time. He loved going to country concerts with his best friends every summer. His favorite was probably the memories he made at Kenny Chensey concerts. He loved going on vacations and being on a beach. He loved being with his family and making fun of his parents with his sister. He enjoyed playing very competitive beach games with his family every summer at Wildwood (New Jersey). He loved the time he got to spend with his girlfriend Katelyn even when it was simple things like watching Seagulls (his favorite). He also enjoyed watching and talking about TV shows such as Manifest and New Amsterdam with his Mom a bond they both shared.
Tommy had the best ability to make friends everywhere he went. He was also a great friend. He loved all of his different friend groups from his Pequannock friends, his Floyd hall friend group, hockey friends, Rutgers friends, and Boston friends.
Anyone who knew Tommy knows how happy he was with a rum and coke in his hand surrounded by people who made him laugh.
Tommy is lovingly survived by his parents, Tom and Trish Savino; his sister, Kristi; his grandmother, Barbara Demarest; his girlfriend,Katelyn McCarthy; his uncles, James Demarest and his wife Linda, and Tom Demarest and his wife Terri; his aunt, Cathi Reda; as well as many cousins.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, James Demarest, and Rocco and Jean Savino; as well as his uncle, Gene Reda.
An hour of visitation will be held 10-11 am Wednesday at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church, Pompton Plains. A funeral Mass will be held at the church at 11 am. Entombment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Be The Match, the Jimmy Fund, or the John Theurer Cancer Center (Lymphoma Division) at Hackensack University Medical Center, would be greatly appreciated by Tommys' family.
