God called his faithful servant, Peggy Ruth Burns Gearing, age 90, of Lake Village, Arkansas, home, on July 28, 2021. She was born on January 30, 1931, in Oak Grove, LA, to her late parents, Walter Franklin Burns and Pearl Irene Robertson Burns.
She is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Arvel Floyd Gearing, Sr., brother, Jimmy Wayne “Buddy” Burns, and grandson, Jason Scott Rotton.
She is survived by her children, Linda Rotton (Curtis) and Arvel Gearing Jr.; sister, Dorothy Cope; grandchildren, Kenneth Rotton, Rachel Ashburn (Josh), Meagan Hall (Bryan), and Arvel “Trey” Gearing, III,; and great grandchildren, Caleb, Chad, Skylor, Chase, Kaden, Chloe, Colby, Avery, Emory, and Bristol.
She retired in 1992 from her career in food service after working as Manager of the Dietary Department at Chicot Memorial Hospital for 27 years.
She loved her church, Parkway Baptist Church, where she was the longtime Treasurer, going to the Senior Citizens Center, Senior Luncheons sponsored by Delta Baptist Association, card games with friends, pokeno in the Second Thursday Night group at Fawnwood Community Center, and bingo at the library. She also loved to work with her flowers and plants, reading murder mysteries and John Grisham, and walking around the yard as long as she was able. She also loved her cat, Mister.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 30th from 5-7 p.m. at Bishop-King Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 31st at 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home, with burial following in the Lake Village Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Kenneth Rotton, Trey Gearing, Caleb Byrd, Chad Ashburn, Chase Ashburn, Kaden Byrd, and Colby Hall. Honorary pallbearer will be grandson, Emory Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake Village Cemetery Association, Chicot Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary, or by purchasing Gideon Bibles.
