Dearly loved husband for 61 years to his childhood sweetheart Maureen, father of Ross and Neil and grandfather (Bampa) to Kirsty, Rachel, Tess and Jesse. Professor of International Business at Wilfrid Laurier (1985 - 2002). Despite leaving Coatbridge High School with no formal qualifications, Jim achieved significant academic success. His first job was as a Clerk in the Town Office. This allowed him to attend Night School, from which he gained a basic professional qualification in Accountancy. It was with this that he was accepted as a Lecturer at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, still without a degree. His progress within the department and the topic were quickly recognized and rewarded with promotion and incredibly from this start, he was later awarded the prestigious Winston Churchill Fellowship, Carnegie, and Fulbright Scholarships. These supported and marked his travel and academic progression including his master’s degree. Jim moved from his position of Senior Lecturer in Edinburgh to his career goal of Professor, beginning work at Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, in 1985. He thoroughly enjoyed this role saying he principally loved teaching and that his students loved his teaching. Beyond Waterloo, he taught in many universities across the world, frequently twice, as they so appreciated his work. He worked in Brigham Young (Utah, USA); Curtin (Perth, Australia); Ecole Superieure (Rennes, France) as well as Moscow and Lenningrad in Russia. Through his career he published three academic textbooks and over 100 articles in peer reviewed, international journals. On retiring he gave away his entire library of books to his students leaving the University only with a large card and bottle of single malt whisky, a tribute to his skill, generosity and popularity. As a youth in Scotland, Jim was a decent athlete and footballer, missing out on a career in the latter by choosing to woo his future wife on training nights instead. His athletic prowess pushed him into distance running as both a respite from the stresses of work and then as achievement in completing 8 marathons including London and New York. He loved golf, both in Edinburgh and then Galt, playing regularly and even winning more competitions than many can remember. Perhaps his eccentric putting stance was the cause of his back problems? One disappointment in his life was never scoring a hole in one, made slightly deeper when Maureen did so in 2006! In his later years, Jim was a prolific reader and returned to his enjoyment of philately. Proud of being Scottish, he embodied the stereotypical slowness to warm to people but once established that friendship was set for life. He would tease with an entirely straight face causing many concern who missed that twinkle in his eye. He dearly loved his family. He leaves friends all around the world; some were colleagues, some were students, all were loved. The Memorial service will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S., Waterloo on May 28, 2022, at 2:00. All those who are unable to attend in person are welcome to join virtually. A link for the service will be available at the top of Jim's obituary page on the funeral home website at www.erbgood.com. Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
