Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. I had met Lawrence a few years ago through the Burlington Model flying Club. I enjoyed talking with him and listening to his stories of travel and aviation. He was always happy to spend time at the “Bronte field” doing what he truly enjoyed, flying his planes and hanging out with the other club members. I feel very fortunate to have had the pleasure of knowing Lawrence, his presence will be missed.

Died February 5 at his Burlington home following a brief battle with acute leukemia. The only child of Ernest and Mabel (Ireland) Cragg, Lawrence, born Feb. 4, 1928, was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy in 2005. He leaves his daughters, Leslie (Frank Palovits) Cragg of Innisfil, Penny (Tom) Burton of Jackson's Point and his partner, Margaret Petrushevsky. Born and raised within earshot of Big Ben, Lawrence was a dedicated London lad, except for a brief sojourn into the country when city children were evacuated to avoid the blitz in1939. The day he turned 14 and could legally escape his detested, boring, rural school, he fled back to the city and two years of assorted menial jobs, the most significant as a service technician in a radio/television repair shop where he helped a female BBC staffer build a radio in return for a change to see the BBC control room. Fascinated, he soon joined the institution as an engineer-in-training with the BBC's engineering college. In 1946 he signed up for his national service with the Royal Air Force, but despite passing the boards to take pilot training, opted to do two years in aircraft electrical maintenance rather than the mandatory 10 years to earn his wings.Obligation met, he went straight back to his beloved "Auntie BBC" where he became part of the outside broadcast team, humping speakers and booms and all manner of television equipment around the city of London to shoot material for the live programming which resumed after the war. that was also when he met Dorothy Herbert, the London girl who followed him to Toronto when, in 1953, he impulsively answered an A.V. Roe advertisement for staff to work at their Malton aircraft assembly plant. His British television experience prompted him to try working for the neophyte CBC television system, but doing staff lectures and maintenance on video studio equipment and microwave communications were too different from what he'd known in England and he quit within a year. From there he entered the research department at Ferranti-Packard in Mount Dennis where his assignments involved such diverse projects as working on Canada's only computer at the time, the mainframe at the University of Toronto, designing and building a nuclear reactor simulator for Chalk river, inventing bar code, designing defense department equipment, and becoming increasingly involved with digital technologies and computers. In 1965 he was assigned to design an airline passenger reservation system for an Australian airline and went "down under" with his family for a year to see the system through the teething process. While he thoroughly enjoyed the Aussies, his family's unhappiness with that country prompted the to return to Canada. When Ferranti was sold, Lawrence formed his own firm to create specialized computer systems for industrial needs. With three fellow Ferranti staffers as partners, he set up TekLogix Inc., in Brampton in 1967 to serve nations and international clients. Even before he retired in 1996, he taught computer programming at Humber College for several years. Despite his dedication to work, Lawrence made time to play. From flight school at Buttonville in 1953 to sailing with other TekLogix staffers, driver training as Mossport, and river cruises in northern Europe, he loved to be active. He began motorcycling as a teen in England and continued in Canada, the United States and most recently with the mountain tours in Europe, only giving up his beloved Honda VFR in 2015. His most recent and enduring retirement hobby began when he joined the Burlington Radio-Controlled Airplane Club in 1996. He held numerous executive positions with the club throughout the years, most recently creating their original website. In addition to his hobbies, he was dedicated to his furry felines and had he had his way, his home would have been full of them. Sincerest thanks to Grant O’Shea, Dave Carter, doctors Rizk, Christianson, and Pyle, and staff of the Joseph Brant hospital emergency department and palliative care team for their generous help and support through our crisis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ontario Humane Society. Cremation has taken place and a private funeral will be held in the spring.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
