Nathan McFarland, age 79, of Ocean City, New Jersey transitioned from this life on Saturday, September 17, 2022. Nathan was born on May 2, 1943, in Marion, South Carolina to Lillie Mae and Nathan McFarland.
In 1967, Nathan married Kemry Gordon in Ocean City, New Jersey.
He was employed at the Cape May County Bridge Commission for many years until his retirement. Nathan also owned and operated several businesses including Thrifty Lawn Care, a restaurant, a fish market and cleaning service. Nathan was a faithful member of St. James AME Church in Ocean City where he served as a Trustee. Nathan was also actively involved in the NAACP and served as President of his local chapter.
Nathan enjoyed traveling. Nathan and his wife, Kemry, along with their close family and friends, cruised annually for more than forty years. He also enjoyed traveling to see his children and grandchildren in North Carolina and Tennessee. Nathan looked forward to spending time with his breakfast buddies; Johnnie McClellan, Hercules and WC. He also loved hanging out with his special friends, Homer and Ann Baker, Tommy and Mary Miles, William and Anna Livingston, Wade and Lois Singleton, Nathaniel and Angela Graham and the entire 2nd & Haven family.
Over the past few years, Nathan’s love of politics continued to grow and his family and friends affectionately referred to him as a CNN and MSNBC correspondent.
Nathan leaves to cherish his memories: sons, Daryle McFarland, and his wife, Pam, and Michael McFarland, and his wife, Charissa; daughter Pamela Brown, and her husband, George; grandchildren, Darius, Deon, Symon, Margaret, Olivia and Michael, Jr.; godchildren, Michael and Shannon Rowell; brother, Elson McFarland; sister, Beverly Gary; sisters-in-law, Dorothy McFarland and Dorothy “Dottie” McFarland; nieces, Daphne Cesar and Prettie Washington; nephews, Timothy Washington, Troy McFarland and Alfred Gary; special cousins, Booker T. Gordon, Jr., Veronica Cato, Katonga Peacock, Alisha Bowden, Dwayne Bowden, Deidre Samuel, Dana Bowden; special friends, Ann and Homer Baker, Audrey and Clyde Battle, Hercules Smith, Levern Granger, Russel Graham, Johnnie McClellan, Sr., Johnnie McClellan, Jr. and a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be 11AM, Saturday, September 24, 2022, Faith Baptist Church, 829 Tilton Road, Pleasantville, New Jersey, where friends may call from 10AM.
