Gwendolyn Rusk Canfield died peacefully on March 23, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Gwen was born on April 21, 1937, in Haddonfield, New Jersey, where she grew up with her siblings Whit and Mary. Gwen attended Denison University in Ohio, where she received her bachelor’s degree in English. After graduating from college, Gwen married and had three children, Laura, Bill, and Doug, whom she raised in Nutley, New Jersey. Gwen was dedicated to her community throughout her professional life. For years, she worked as a teacher for children with special needs in the Nutley and Belleville School Districts and was later a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood. Gwen worked for the last half of her career at the YMCA of Greater Bergen County, after which she retired. Gwen found occasion to sing at every step in her life. She learned to play the piano and read music as a young girl, skills she later loved sharing with her children and grandchildren. As a young adult, she sang with the Westminster Choir College. Later, she sang for several seasons with the Choral Art Society of New Jersey in Newark, a profoundly meaningful experience. She sang in the St. Paul’s Congregational Church choir almost every Sunday for over 50 years. Choir was her chosen family. Gwen loved her community and wanted to leave it better than she found it. She volunteered for several decades with the League of Women Voters, passionately educating people about the election process, and encouraging people to vote. She also served as the Chair of the Board of Directors for Nutley Parkside Apartments and was active in championing low-income, senior housing until the week of her own passing. For over five decades, Gwen served in various Board positions at the Saint Paul’s Congregational Church. For many years, Gwen sat on the Board of the Nutley Community School. She also drove elders to medical appointments as an American Red Cross volunteer. Gwen filled her spare time with a variety of social groups, including the Red Hats, Nutley Town Club, Friday Afternoon Club, and bridge clubs. Gwen’s real passion was for her family. She loved nothing more than spending time with her siblings, children, grandchildren, and large extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews anywhere but especially in their family cabin in central Maine, which they call Noisy Brook. Gwen loved any and all card games and was an avid player of bridge, cribbage, rummy 500, backgammon, and hearts (family rules edition). She rarely kept score, but she loved the banter and how games could bring people together. She will be dearly missed by her sister, Mary; sister-in-law, Pat; two children, Laura and Doug; her children-in-law, Alison, Elissa, Peter, and Rick; her grandchildren, Katie, Makayla, Luke, Maddie, Meagan, Dylan, Nicholas, and Juliana; and her beloved extended family. We are comforted to know she is happily reunited with her son, Bill; her parents, Betty and Stan; her brother, Whit; her partner, Bill Bowes; and her many friends who passed before she did. The family will host a memorial service to honor Gwen’s life on April 13th at St. Paul’s Congregational Church in Nutley, New Jersey, at 11 am, with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Nutley Family Service Bureau or Christ House in Washington, DC.

Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
