JERREAT, Amy Louise (Née Treanor) Have you ever swum too far out, then finally struggled back to that pink granite rock warmed by the sun? What a sense of relief. That was our mother, Lou, a rock to rest on, a steady source of love and support that we felt through our skin. Amy Lou Treanor Jerreat was a loving, generous, intelligent person who left us peacefully for new adventures on March 9th, 2021, in her 92nd year. Amy Lou is survived by her brother, George Treanor, and her beloved daughters Susan Iker (Frank) and Jerri Jerreat (Walt Sepic), and the grandchildren she read and played with: Michelle Kuijer (Mark), Nathan Bradford-Grant (Loredana), Stephanie Russell (Scott), William Iker (Amber), Tanner May-Poole (Sarah), Adan Jerreat-Poole (Rida Abu Rass) and Haven Jerreat-Poole. Amy Lou loved to watch and hear about her great-grandchildren: Dalton, Riley and Dakota Kuijer, Archie and Alice Russell, Mackenzie and Oliver Iker, and Sienna and Holden May-Poole. Predeceased by her daughter Loretta (Bradford), her brother, Nicholas Treanor, and her parents, Amy Catherine Treanor (nee Haynes) and Nicholas James Treanor. Mom was born on May 5, 1929 in New York City, borough of Queens. She grew up on the Haynes’ family farm on the corner of Effingham and Pelham Roads, St. Catharines. The farm grew grapes for juice, but Amy Lou perfected the art of hiding in the cherry tree to read good books. She enjoyed her bevy of aunts and cousins, and attending her one-room schoolhouse. She was the only girl on the baseball team. Her grandfather thought it improper for a girl to attend a coed high school but Amy Lou hitchhiked into town to attend St. Catherine’s Collegiate. Following her graduation in 1942, she worked at Lightning Fastener as an office clerk and typist, then at the Hydroelectric Power Commission of Ontario from 1948 to 1952. With the kind help of her brother Nick, Amy Lou became one of two mature students to attend Brock University full time for a full year. Lou soon became a high school teacher at Thorold Secondary School, teaching Business and Office Practices and later, Mathematics. She also tutored family members through mathematics, who, frankly, would never have passed upper high school math without her. Lou loved to learn new things, and was always immersed in university courses. She graduated from Teacher’s College after three summers away from her children, boarding with a great-aunt in Toronto, and continued her studies part-time. Lou graduated from Brock University with a Bachelors of Arts degree in History in 1974, and then with a Masters of Education in 1980. Always interested in history, politics and equal rights for women, she read widely, and volunteered for the Liberal party, later supporting the NDP party. Lou was a member of the OSSTF bargaining committee throughout her teaching career, and a member of the board for her condominium owners’ association later on. She supported a family in India for over 30 years. Lou was a member of the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria and ran a study group as well. Lou also started the first cooperative high school course at Thorold S.S. and was often re-writing the curriculum for remedial mathematics to address student needs. She taught for 23 years and retired in 1989. After retirement, Lou studied sign language and volunteered for years in primary classrooms, listening to children read. She learned about organic gardening from reading, moved to a small house with a yard and tore it up to build raised organic gardens. Sunflower sprouts grew on trays in a sunny window. Lou also took long walks, lifted weights, practiced meditation, did yoga and cross-country skied with grandchildren. Lou hosted Christmas,Thanksgiving and birthday dinners for decades, and had an open house for family members in need. Each of her brothers stayed with her for a time, her elderly mother, and two of her adult daughters, their children in tow. Her summers and retirement were filled with grandchildren, and they enjoyed many New Year’s Eve parties with Nana, ginger-ale floats, and board games. Nana watched many soccer, baseball and hockey games over the years, cheering for grandchildren, and came to any assembly or concert she could. Lou had one of the first electric typewriters, then computers, and enjoyed researching genealogy. She daily read newspapers from across the world. She taught us that library books are free, how to reupholster a chair, sew curtains, make ice cream from bananas, stretch a meal, stand up for social justice, and help each other. She was our cherished matriarch. Amy Lou Jerreat was the best mother three girls could have asked for. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciatation to the staff at Millenium Trail Manor, especially to the team on Elgin. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, Women for Women International, or the local women’s shelter, Gillian's Place. In keeping with Lou's wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines. Due to COVID restrictions, a private funeral mass will be held at the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria on Friday, June 18, 2021, followed by a private burial at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. For those wishing to view the funeral, a video will be available on Lou's website tribute page by Saturday, June 19th.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
