To Betty and Family: It was with shock and sadness that I read of Brian's passing. I know that you will all be feeling deep grief and a painful emptiness as you cope with the reality that he is not there in his accustomed places. But be assured he is fondly remembered by many people, at least four in our family, Glen, Teresa, Judy and I. Brain was a good man and a great mechanic, or should I say he was a great man and a good mechanic. Back in the day he kept our beaters on the road. On one occasion he looked after my son's car which had stalled out & his dealer said those dents in the aluminum head have ruined your engine. For $3,000 we'll put in a new engine. We said no to that and we hauled the car into Brian's shop. He laughed & said, "those dents don't matter at all, I'll check it out and have you back on the road for under $30.00. He was a godsend. Brian passed away suddenly at home March 2, 2021 at the age of 69. Brian is survived by his wife Betty, 2 daughters Sherry (Chad) and Barb (Tyler) and his 2 four legged children Zoey and Holly. His grandkids Jaden, Willow and Chyler. Not forgetting the ones with 4 legs Riley, Olive, KC and Asta. He is also survived by his siblings Sharon (Mel), Keith (Cindy), Wayne (Michele) and Judy. Brian is predeceased by his father Nelson (Pat), Mother Emily (Steingram), Father- in-law Ernie, Mother- in-law Denise and brother-in law-George. Brian was born in Brandon, MB but moved to Winnipeg at young age. The family settled in St. James and there probably wasn’t a street in the area they didn’t live on. He met Betty through the Northwest mix bowling league. They married in 1972 and just celebrated their 48th year anniversary in December 2020. Together they raised 2 amazing daughters. Shortly after they were married, they took a chance and with no experience at all bought the Valley Drive In, a truck stop on Hwy 75 near Morris, MB. They built a very successful business and over the 7 years they were there, made many friendships with people across Canada and the US that are still going strong today. Over the years Brian worked for many auto repair shops. His first bosses were Wally Byrdie and Bob Squance located on Stafford St in Winnipeg. He also worked for Woody at the Petro Canada at Ferry & Ness, Gord at the Petro at Ellice and Route 90 among a couple others. Although, he seemed to always be drawn back to Wally & Bob’s. For a period of 7 years he ran his own shop out of our home and was very thankful to all the customers who supported us at that time. In September 2007, Brian moved out to the family farm in the Morris area and worked for Ryan at Rosenort Esso and then for Nathan at Motown Motors until finally retiring at 65. He enjoyed being a mechanic most times. When he had a problem he would never give up until he found the solution to it. Even when faced with his biggest problem yet, that damn 1978 Austin mini of Barb’s. He would help anyone who was in need, usually leaving his own work to do so. Anyone that knew Brian knew that music was his passion. He started playing bass in his teen years but as he grew older he didn’t have as much time to play as he would have liked to. He lost his way for a bit but a very special friend Bill, helped him through a difficult time which enabled him to reconnect with this passion. He along with friends Garry, Donnie and Jason created the Henry Street Band which held a special place in his heart. They spent many a weekend in Donnie’s garage out in Kenora playing anything and everything they could think to play. He cherished the friendships and memories he made out there. He volunteered his time doing the sound for the Sisters of the Holy Rock with Garry. His work with the sisters not only allowed him to travel Manitoba and meet a wide range of new people but also the ability to play with all the equipment. Nothing made him happier then needing to head out to Long and McQuade to look at the latest gadgets. It also didn’t hurt that after the performances, they would always go out for dinner and he would get to tell all those wonderful stories he was so famous for. Since moving back to Morris he became active at the Morris United Church, playing guitar with Allan Dickson and Linda Sommers 2 Sundays a month. This was his way of giving back to the community doing what he loved the most. In addition to playing at the church services, he was also on the board. After his dad passed away in 1994, he took his place operating the HAM radio at the Manitoba Marathon. Our father’s day tradition for the last 25 years has been to meet him at the Garwood Grill on Pembina Hwy for breakfast after he closed down his mile. For some of those years it was after his girls had waved at him when they ran past him on their way to the finish line. Due to the circumstances, no formal service will be held at this time. The family wishes to thank the first responders and RCMP in St. Pierre for doing everything they could and Brad from Birchwood Funeral Home. Big thanks to Corey at Morris Funeral Home for taking such good care of us and helping us through this difficult time. You cannot lose a person, only their body, for the rest of them can be found in your heart and mind. Donations can be made to the Humane Society as Brian had a huge soft spot for four legged furry friends.

Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.

Limitations of Liability. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
