Young Lee, 83, of Lindenhurst, N.Y., passed away peacefully of natural causes on November 4 2023, surrounded by family. Young was born on May 5, 1940, in Korea, to parents Inkyu and Suk-Ja Lee. When he was 5, his family escaped from the northern part of the country to the south, thanks to the foresight and planning of his father, Inkyu, a physician and surgeon. As a young boy in school, Young became enamored with American democracy while reading the Gettysburg Address in English class. When he was 18, he served in the Korean military as an MP and translator for American soldiers. It was during that time he became equally enamored with American food, after being introduced to pancakes and sausage in the U.S. Army mess halls in Korea. After the military, he went on to college and graduated in electrical engineering from a university in Seoul. From there he was offered a position at NCR (National Cash Register), and soon after that he was sent by the company to Japan for an advanced training course. While in Japan, Young befriended a Brazilian diplomat to whom he expressed an interest in living in the warm, tropical country of Brazil. With the help of his friend, he obtained a visa and flew to São Paulo where family friends, the Yoshikaes, offered him a temporary place to stay. Within a week, he was hired to work at Compañía Siderúrgica Belgo Mineira, a large iron and steel plant operating in Minas Gerais, Brazil, as a technician for their office machines. It is there he met his wife, Anabela, with whom he raised three children and lived happily for 56 years on Long Island. Young Lee was a kind, hardworking and charismatic man with a deep love of family, community and country. His confidence, humor and sociability allowed him to connect effortlessly with people, and he cherished laughter and conversation with neighbors, his children and their friends, as well as familiar faces around town. A true New Yorker, he loved the hustle and bustle of the city and all it had to offer, a love he imparted onto his family. He commuted into the city every day of his entire working life, either by car or train, always waking up at the crack of dawn, showering and shaving and sitting at the kitchen table in a crisp shirt and tie, ready to start the day with clockwork precision. An avid news reader, he always had a newspaper under his arm when he arrived home from work, usually the New York Times or New York Post. His personal items — a wallet, glasses, pen and address book — were sacred, and neatly kept where he could find them on the kitchen counter near the refrigerator. He also loved Long Island and looked forward every year to renewing his Empire pass for the summer season. Young was a great cook and loved throwing backyard barbecues and entertaining friends and relatives, especially his young nieces from Brazil, whom he adored. A proud American, he never forgot the words from the Gettysburg address that moved him so deeply as a child and which he continued to quote in his senior years while fighting back tears: “that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish …” He is survived by his wife, Anabela Drummond Lee, his son Richard and partner Rebekah Meola, and his daughters Anne Marie and Katherine. He will be deeply missed. The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 5 p.m. — 8 p.m. at Lindenhurst Funeral Home. The family asks that people make donations to the North Shore Animal League, in lieu of sending flowers.

My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
