John Levi Paddick (1937-2022) Passed away peacefully in Calgary on September 12, 2022, John Levi Paddick at the age of 85. He was predeceased in 2010 by the love of his life, the center of his world, and his wife of 47 years, Carol Anne Paddick (nee Duggan). Left to mourn are daughters Kelly Aiello of Calgary, Lyanne O’Leary of La Paz, Mexico and son Brendan Paddick of Freeport, Bahamas. He will be forever remembered and loved by son-in-laws John Aiello and Randall O’Leary and daughter-in-law, “kiddo” Renee Vedd-Paddick. “Poppy Jack” will be forever missed in the hearts and memories of his six grandchildren, Shae Aiello, Braeden Aiello, Cayla Vedd-Paddick, Ian Paddick, Kern O’Leary and Gary Paddick. He will be fondly remembered by his sister, Margaret (late Tom Kelly) of Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland, as well as a long list of family, friends and admirers. He was pre-deceased by brothers Sidney (Lorraine) and Jim (Mary). John was born on January 17, 1937 in Grand Falls, Newfoundland where he was raised by his parents Sidney and Catherine (Lewis). He was a talented athlete throughout his school years, proudly representing his hometown in numerous provincial tournaments in both baseball and hockey. John met Carol while she was on a nursing internship at the Central Newfoundland Health Care Center following her graduation from St. Mary’s Nursing School in Montreal in 1961. Carol caught the eye and captured the heart of a young student at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Upon becoming the first in his family to ever graduate from University (and one of the last students to attend the Parade Street campus), John set out to find Carol in Alexandria, Ontario; determined to make her his bride. They were married on July 10, 1963 and lived briefly in Ontario. John and Carol moved back to where it all began for them in Grand Falls where Carol worked as a nurse for close to 20 years while John taught and was principal at Notre Dame Academy for 29 years. Throughout those years John earned his Masters of Education from the University of Ottawa. John loved the great outdoors and was an avid fisherman, wood cutter, boater and snowmobiler. He claimed to be a hunter but could never pull the trigger, but instead cherished the friendship and comradery of Brian Nolan, Bill Hanlon, Gerry Anstey, Dennis Fewer and Ed Connolly, amongst others. They played countless games of poker and spun many a yarn at “Camp and a Half” and New Bay Lake. He may not have always had the best of luck at poker, but there were few that could claim to have beaten him at a game of bridge. He was very active in the community and was a life-long member of the Kiwanis Club. John, a man of strong faith, was the consummate family man, and together with Carol truly loved sharing time with their children, grandchildren and all of their friends. The welcome mat was always out at both their home and their cabin and they relished playing the role of hosts for gatherings of family and friends. Many of his children’s friends tried to lay claim to John and Carol as their second parents. The family would like to thank all of John’s caregivers, both past and present, at McKenzie Towne Retirement Residence, Seton Seniors Community and the Father Lacombe Care Centre. As per John’s wishes, there will be no funeral service in Calgary. A celebration of life will take place when he is returned to Grand Falls-Windsor and his ashes are spread at New Bay Lake and buried alongside Carol. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to either of two causes close to John’s heart; A Dollar A Day Foundation at www.adollaraday.ca or the Lionel Kelland Hospice at www.lionelkellandhospice.ca

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.
If in any part of these Terms of Use is held, by a court of competent jurisdiction, to be invalid or unenforceable, such part of these Terms of Use shall be eliminated to the extent permitted in that jurisdiction, for purposes of that jurisdiction, and the remaining Terms of Use shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified. It is your responsibility to review these Terms of Use regularly.
